infant swimming lessons

With summer fast approcahing, just wondering if anyone is thinking about enrolling their LO in swim lessons. From what I've read, looks like "classes" begin at six months.  So that would put us towards July/August.  I'm eager to get DS lessons- I'm a firm believer that it's one of the best things you can do for your child.  What are your thoughts?

  • I'm looking into the same. I do not think that MJ will learn much this year but it will give him some water experience.

  • We're going to get him enrolled in swim lessons this year. I love being in the pool and I want Lucas to love it just as much.

  • Ladybug loves being in the pool.  I plan on looking at swim lessons around the begining of the school year.  Then Grandma can take her (they are all during the day when I work Sad) while the boys are at school.
  • I agree. Hannah starts in August- shell be 6 months then. Speaking of activities Hannah is taking a music class this summer called Kindermusik Village. I have heard good things about the program.

  • I definitely want A to be in the water a lot this summer, but I'm not sure if she'll take lessons.  The woman who cares for her during the workday has a pool at her apartment complex, and asked me recently if she could take her swimming this summer.  Audrey is the only child she takes care of, so I know she'll be safe at the pool, and I'm so excited she'll be able to spend a good amount of time in the water!  We also usually spend a lot of summer weekends at DH's parents lake cabin, so I'm sure we'll take her swimming up there.  I bought her the cutest little swimsuit yesterday!

  • Our daughter started as soon as the swim school allowed...3 months...Parent & Me class.  She loves it.
  • A local pool offers free classes at 3 months- we're going to try it and see what S thinks. The pool opens next week, and he'll be 3.5 months. I'm probably only going to keep him in the pool for 10-15 minutes, to start with. Not really sure why, but my inner doctor is a little concerned about the chemicals, but as long as he doesn't hate it and shows no sign of skin irritation or other physical irritation, we'll do it once a week. At this point, like most of our activities, it'll be more of a social thing for me and just to get him used to water. The good thing is, they are free, so I won't feel bad if we miss a day, or can only spend a few minutes in the pool.

  • Our local classes start at 6 months, but DD will probably not start for a while. I want to do it but DH isn't sold on the idea.

  • I'm busting to do it b/c I'm pulling my hair out around here. But I'm a little concerned about baby being in chlorine which is a chemical.  Thoughts?
