We like and use aveno. We used J&J but it made the boys eczema react. Now the pedi is telling us to use catiphill because it is better for eczema. I wouldnt stock up on to many of one brand til you find out what will work best. Also get a head to toe wash rather than wash and shampoo.
FTM.. but I have heard good things about Aveeno baby products. I received Burt's Bees baby wash and after reading about it online, I am excited to give it a shot. I am a sucker for good old fashioned J&J because of the smell, but have no experience with actually using it. I plan on using a variety of products to find which ones work best with LO.
We are still working on getting through all the products we received as gifts from my shower when I was pregnant with DD. We've used Aveeno, various J&J, and Up&Up. When they are very small, I feel more comfortable using something on the more gentle side like Aveeno. After she was a bit older we broke out the J&J and I love that for the smell. Up&Up is really just as good, but I still use the J&J lotion, just smells better to me. I love the J&J nighttime loition (purple bottle).
I use J&J, loved the lavender one! My daughter who is 9 still uses the baby wash when she takes her shower...she doesnt like soap nor any other brand we have tried on her

I used J&J until DD was about 2. I think that's a good one to start, especially the soap/shampoo combo. I recently switched to Aveeno because of her dry skin.
I like Aveeno and J&J products. J&J makes a lotion that I think is THE BEST! My DH even swears by it for his dry hands (from work). It's called extra care soft lotion, it's in an hour glass shaped white bottle with a yellow pump on top. It's the only thing that I've found that actually heals dry skin.
Both of my girls got my dry skin and eczema, so I only use California Baby products. They are alittle more costly, but they are great for eczema but don't make baby's skin feel greasy.

I second the California Baby Calming Head to Toe Wash!!!! Its kind of expensive, but it is SUPER concentrated and lasts a very long time!! I've also been using it as a face wash for myself since I found out I was pregnant again and its been amazing, I honestly don't think I will switch back to my regular cleanser once this baby is born. My son and I have also loved their diaper rash cream, sensitive skin lotion, calendula cream, and sunscreen. I have no complaints about any of their products.
Re: Best kind of baby wash/shampoo?
We use california Baby Calming (its a lavender scent)... It is a combo wash and shampoo and bubble bath...
It is my favorite... :-)
I like aveeno and j&j. We've tried others- Burts Bees, etc...but I like the way aveeno and j&j smell so much better!
Dry skin has only been an issue for us if we try to give DD a bath every day. We try to stick to every other day to avoid her skin drying out.
I'm an FTM but my friend who has a 2 year old recommended Mustela products such as this:
