Hello April Moms & Exercise

Hi ladies!!

It seems like I haven't been on here in forever!! I glanced at all the threads & it looks like I have A LOT of catching up to do! I used to try & catch up on this board during the middle of the night feedings, but lately we both have been sleep during those.  I don't know about you all, but my days are flying by & the days seem to be all running together! ha!

I'm sure this has probably been asked before, but has/did anyone start working out prior to the 6 weeks?  I've lost about 20 pounds already from just breastfeeding, but still have at least another 20 pounds to go to get back to my pp weight and I'm eager to get into the gym.

When did you start?  Did you have any problems?

I have only been walking, I had some discomfort when I started ( I had Olivia March 18) but I am feeling back to my self again.  I have a Yoga DVD but haven't opened the package yet.

  • At about 4 weeks I started "workouts" that included long walks with the stroller (2-3 miles) and light weights at home - mostly bicep/tricep/shoulder exercises.  My discharge instructions said not to lift anything heavier than the baby so I used 5lb weights.  I stayed away from yoga/pilates because my c-section incision was still bothering me.  Now that I've cleared 6 weeks I think I might add in some aerobic dvd's.

My MW's are pretty adamant about keeping activity very light during the first 6 weeks and counsel heavily against not doing anything other than light walking, so that's all I've been up to.  Once I get the all clear at my 6-week appointment I'm ready to get back to working out.

I lost 30 lbs pre-baby  and felt the best I've ever felt in my life doing Jillian Michaels videos.   Now all but 10 of my pregnancy pounds are gone and I'm starting to feel like myself again.   I can't wait to start working out again, I have two videos she put out during my pregnancy just sitting waiting for my 6 week check up.
But three things remain: faith, hope and love; the greatest of these is love. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker BabyFruit Ticker

I have not had my 6 week appointment yet, but I was told I could do anything I felt comfortable with, except sit-ups.  I've been doing a lot of walking, and I'll be going back to my Martial Arts class tonight for the first time since Chase was born.  We'll see how it goes.

  • Well it sounds like everyone is pretty much waiting until the 6 wk mark. I'll probably just do some walks and maybe yoga & save the real workouts after I talk to my Dr.
