I work days and SO works overnights.  I have no secrets, I'm pretty unhappy.  I try not to be; I like my job a lot, I just would rather be part time.  I HATE SO working nights but it's not going to change any time soon, so oh well.

  • I was always organized and had everything good to go before baby and now I am a disaster! I never know where anything is and I am always late! I am one of those annoying moms who is never on time no matter how early I get up!
  • We don't have crazy jobs.  Just normal, full time jobs.  DH works outside a lot so he gets drained from the heat and my brain just gets fried because I am incredibly busy and stressed all day long, work thru lunch, etc.  We both come home and after putting some kind of dinner together, feeding and bathing DS and putting him to bed, and then kinda sorta cleaning up the kitchen, we just sit around like slugs until we fall asleep.  Then one of us wakes the other up for the tenth time and we go to bed and go to sleep again.  He's working tonight though so I am at the moment waiting for DS to get sleepy and put him to bed in about half an hour.  So I haven't had to deal w/ dinner since it's just me.

So yeah I have no tips.  This is my existence.

I have this exact situation.  Sometimes I get so overwhelmed at night trying to get everything done- bills, laundry, cleaning, sterilizing bottles and stuff (because God forbid my DH would do any of this during the day).  I am also always late now.  I have no suggestions, I just keep reminding myself that it is *probably* temporary.

This exactly!  Then DH has the nerve to say that we don't have to be married to raise our DD if I'm not happy....ugh...

ditto this but reverse it. I work the night shift, DH works days. my ONLY saving grace is I am 3 (sometimes 4) nights a week

  • My secret was going to an 80% schedule before that I would have been gone 11 hours a day.  Now, I get to spend time with my kids after work, I also work from home 2 days a week.  I would have been miserable working full time and never getting to see my family.  As it is, most nights I don't sit down til 9 after some cleaning, getting things ready for the next day, etc.  I guess some advice is to write everything down, make a daily and weekly schedule for you & DH, split responsibilities.  Don't be afraid to say no to weekend events so that you have some down time.  Enjoy the little moments, time flies by.

  • i have a pretty crazy unpredictable work schedule - work anywhere from 8 to 12-hour days and don't really know when i leave the house in the morning which it will be.  DH freelances so some days he's home and some he's not.  the way i deal is by never cooking and i clean on the weekends.  i do the daily things like wash bottles and sometimes laundry (DH is pretty good with that on his days off) but i don't let the little stuff bother me.  luckily i've never been a neat freak and i live in NYC so there are plenty of great takeout options.

  • Luckily we don't both have 'crazy' hours. In fact, I had to cut my hours back to return, which is very difficult on us financially, but means at least one of us gets to spend time with DS!

I am up with DS, take him to daycare by 7:30, pick him up by 4 or 4:30pm and am with him until he goes to sleep. There are some days DH doesn't see him at all!

Like I said, financially it's tough, but it is just for the first few months back at work so that I can spend a bit more time with DS. We don't have any family around, and I don't want him to spend more time with his daycarers than us if possible!

  • My DH and I both work 10ish hour days with an hour commute each way. I'm a control freak so its been difficult but my advice is to outsource whatever you can (hire a cleaning service, send all your H's shirts to the drycleaner so you don't have to iron, let your MIL bring you a lassagne if she offers, etc. - oh, and internet shopping is your friend) and try to focus on quality time with your H and LO.

  • We have a great daycare that is flexible and family to help out as well. Other than that, we just keep on keepin' on -- and make sure to try to make time just for each other, too.
