do you always trust test results?

I took my pp GTT test today (yuck!) and I just got a voicemail from my OB's office saying to call them about the results. I know they wouldn't call to tell me everything is fine, especially since I have an appt on Thurs., so it could be one of two things. 1) they are going to tell me I have full blown diabetes or 2) they are going to tell me my thyroid is still out of whack and to keep taking my meds (I also had this tested because I was diagnosed w/ mild hypothyroidism early on in my pregnancy and my OB wanted to see if it normalized pp). I really hope they were calling about issue #2 because if it's about my GD I just don't think I believe it. I had a hard time believing the GD diagnosis during pregnancy because my numbers were always well within range without medication or even really sticking to the GD diet. Also, my perinatologist was also surprised about my GD because my A1C is so low. And honestly I didn't notice a difference in how I felt while on the diet and don't feel sick or diabetic now. Yes I know that cancer patients don't always feel sick but that doesn't mean they aren't but I'm just saying. I don't know, I'm skeptical to say the least. Would you be?

  • No I don't always trust test results. There is always a margin of error built in (so many false positives and negatives). Also they are run by humans who are capable of mistakes. If it is GD and you feel that it is a completely wrong it will become apparent quickly when you start testing regularly.

    Good luck!

  • I had GD too and my dr. told me to take the PP GTT between 3 and 6 months PP so that your body has a chance to adjust.

If that is what they were calling about, could it be that you took the GTT too soon?

    Good luck!
