Smelly belly button ???

Okay ladies...

This is probably an obvious thing, but DD's cord has not completely fallen off yet. It's really just hanging in there by a tiny piece and it's really getting to be a pain! But today I noticed that underneath it's gooey looking and it has a funk to it.

Does this warrant a call to the pedi? Can they get infected? It really grosses me out!ha

Thanks!

  • Emily's button was gross too.  Black and smelled rotten.  I went against orders and used alcohol on it (like I was told to do with DD1, 4 years ago). It fell off the next day. and now it is clean and healthy looking.  Good luck!

  • Yes, they can get infected.  I would do as PP said and use a small amount of alcohol around the edges with a Q-tip.  But if there is green or yellow drainage, I would call the Pedi.  (I'm an Pedi ER RN)  Hope this helps!

If I move things around to clean it, it looks yellowish on the inside. We have an appt. Thursday, is this something that can wait or should it be dealt with asap?

    TIA!
