Zantac/Pepcid users

What were LOs symptoms? LO has been spitting up MUCH more recently, and he is gagging/choking more. Usually he starts screaming after he spits up and sometime it takes upwards of an hour to get him to settle down. Seems like acid reflux to me, but I am hesitant to give him zatanc or pepcid. Did it really help your LOs symptoms.

Re: Zantac/Pepcid users

  • My LO has reflux and we tried Zantac for 3 weeks with no changes. On Prevacid now and it has helped a bunch. He still spits up quite a bit but the acid is not bothering him/causing pain. So he is eating more and does not act like he is possessed each time he has a burp coming.

  • We use Zantac. It took about two weeks. I also had to eliminate dairy and caffeine, but, yes, LO can now eat without being in pain. Basically every time I fed my baby it made him hurt. LO feeds for like 45 mins. Then he would scream for an hour, and then we had 15 mins of peace before he was hungry again. How come you don't want to try the meds?

  • DS was spitting up a lot after every feeding, and screaming in pain. We took him to the pedi, she said it was probably reflux and wrote an Rx for Zantac. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be helping since he's still spitting up after every feeding (no more screeches of pain though) so we have another appointment this week.

My pedi said the medications don't do anything to make the reflux better, they just make it less painful. So, its not surprising that your LO is still spitting up.

My pedi told me the same. Unfortunately, a week into zantac and DD is still screaming for hours a day. I'm trying to give it another week, but it's hard.

Same here. If LO is no longer in pain, it's working.

Zaine has silent reflux which means, he doesn't spit up often. It rises in the back of his throat and causes him pain but he doesn't spit it up. His symptoms were like others though, he got REALLY fussy one week and screamed every time we nursed.

  • DD was spitting up a lot during the first few weeks, but only when she was laying down in her crib. One night I decided to put her in her car seat to sleep and she was fine so I brought it up at our appt the next day and I was told to eliminated dairy and spices from my diet. It didn't help, and the morning of her next appointment for a checkup, she started screaming after she spit up. The Pediatrician said babies don't start producing acid until about 4-6 weeks of age so it fit with reflux. DD is on Zantac and it's been a lifesaver.
