C-section moms: VBAC non-clicky poll

The check-in got me thinking of howmany cesareans moms have already thought about a VBAC or not.

I would like to attempt a VBAC. I was told I cannot vaginally deliver unless the baby is a premie though but I am going to look into a 2nd opinion on that. Not positive on my hospitals stance on VBACs since I have heard conflicting responses.

So, have you thought about a VBAC or are you sticking with a c/s?  Is it an option for you?

Re: C-section moms: VBAC non-clicky poll

  • VBAC is not an option for me - and at this point I'm not even sure if another pregnancy is an option for me without having some medical intervention (cerclege or TAC). My OB and MFM agreed that we would discuss it in 2 years and see where we were.

I attempted a VBAC with Caroline. I had a very supportive OB who told me he would do anything he could to help me. I went into labor on my own, pushed for an hour, then ended up with a section because when I was pushing, her heartrate was dropping.

I was very disappointed (I cried the whole time in the OR) but I'm glad I tried.

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • Open to the VBAC...I'm not too attached to the idea of a vaginal delivery, however there are supposedly some benefits to the baby in going through labor.  I'll probably re-address this with my Ob when the time comes and decide then, but if it's better for him/her I'll probably give it a shot.  A part of me really likes the idea of a schedule and not having to push something out of my vagina though.

Part of me wants to say screw it, let's pick a day and call it good for next time. But that's a small part- I would much prefer to go for a VBAC. As far as I know it is still on the table- the hospitals here are very supportive of non-medicated births and will help as much as possible to facilitate that. If a reason comes up, it will be a medical one, not because of a hospital rule.

This part exactly.  We'll see what happens when the time comes!  It's sad that I have a baby, yet I'm still terrified to give birth (vaginally)!

  • I'd like to try VBAC, but that's a discussion I'll need to have with my OB.  We never talked in depth about why my induction failed and so I need to make sure there's not something going on with me that means I can't deliver vaginally.

  • It's not an option for me. I can thank my classical incision for that one.

    Aww.. why the classical incision?

I'd like to try for a VBAC, but my OB says we'll have to see how my next pregnancy goes first.

I would like to try it, but I agree it could be risky.  My current OB group does not do them and I don't think that the hospital where I delivered LO does either.  I know that the Trauma I hospital in the area does.

  • From the time I had the c-section I started thinking about a VBAC.  My hospital doesn't do them, but a bigger hospital close by does.  My OB didn't think I would be a good candidate, however, because I never really went into labor and wouldn't dilate past fingertip even with cytotec, cervadil, and pitocin.  Plus I had some extra bleeding during surgery, so we will see.  I definitely want the experience of a contraction, because I never had one.  Will go over it again closer to when I have another baby-years down the road lol

  • Honestly, I had a great C-Section experience, so I would go for a second one, I think. I went into labor the morning of my scheduled c-section, and I was pretty far along. Call me a wimp, but the contractions were all in my back and I would not be telling a lie if I said I would never want to feel those again!

I'm also torn. I was induced early due to pre-e and had a failed induction. I was in labor for 24 hours before giving in and having a c/s. Even though I was totally exhausted by the time I went into surgery, I was grateful that I got to experience labor. I talked to my OB about it and he said that even though it failed, he thinks I might have ended up with a c/s if I had gone into labor on my own because I should have progressed more with all the drugs they were pumping into me to put me in and keep me in labor. At this point, I'll probably try for a VBAC, but am also open to another c/s if need be.

  • If we decide to have another LO I'll just go with a scheduled C-section. I have no interest in a VBAC.

  • Just thought I'd add my experience being on the other side of this decision.  I had a c/s with DS 1 after failure to progress past 9 cm.  I was able to have a successful VBAC with DS 2, and it was such an incredible experience!  I was told by my original OB (she delivered DS 1) that I wouldn't be a good candidate for a VBAC, but b/c of insurance purposes I had to switch to a different OB, which ended up being a blessing after all.  I told her that I really wanted a VBAC and she was supportive of that the whole time.  I think if you truly want to have a VBAC, you have to have an OB that is 100% behind you, it made all the difference for me!  I was even down to the last hour almost having to have a repeat c/s, but my OB was so supportive and did everything possible to help me.  The experience of having a vaginal delivery was wonderful, knowing I could do it, seeing my baby and holding him immediately, getting to breast feed immediately, everything was so amazing!!!!
  • Oh, and to add, VBAC recovery was sooooooo much better than with a c/s, especially with having a LO at home to take care of too!
