April 2011 Moms

Ugh, that was awful.

I just got back from DD's 2 month appointment and in 2 wks DD only gained a few oz when the 2 wks before she had gained a whole pound. She's been spitting up more but the pedi is afraid she's not getting enough to eat. I had explained that I'm not pumping a lot and even though I think it's probably the pump but she said I should try to supplement with formula. I don't want to supplement with formula but there's no way I can keep up her feedings when I go back to work with the little bit I'm pumping. Now it's pretty much confirmed by the pedi. Then DD got her shots and I've NEVER seen her scream like that. I couldn't even put her back in her seat. Im just glad I made it to my car before I broke down and cried. Then I nursed her in the car and I'm sure someone saw me climb in the drivers seat with a newborn and turn on the car and thought I was going to pull a Brittney Spears. Oh and I found out my pedi is leaving so unless I need her again soon that was my last appointment with her. Ugh.

  • I am so sorry. I totally felt this way after DS's weight checks and 1 month appointment. He was in the 5 percentile and I felt like it was my fault since they kept asking questions and trying to give suggestions and seemed a little concerned. In addition to just being a lazy latch since he was 3.5 weeks early he also had reflux. When they put him on Prevacid it really helped as he started eating a ton better and at his 2 month today he'd gained a lot and they were really pleasantly surprised. Do they think it could be reflux? DS was always ending his feedings crying and I think that really cut down on his eating time. Maybe see a lactation consultant for some ideas on increasing your milk supply? The tips I've read on here that I've found to work were breast compressions, drinking more fluids and pumping longer after the milk stops coming out. As for the shots I know it is hard but just think about what they prevent and know you could be saving her or another child's life. Hang in there momma!

Don't worry we all hear things we don't want to with our LO's.  Olivia was a 10% for growth and 50% for weight,  It seems the only thing that grew was her head (75%) the pedi said don't worry they always catch up later.

Check out the breastfeeding board they have tips for increasing your supply.

Shots are so hard to deal with.  I too had never seen Olivia cry so hard.

    Good luck

  • I agree w all the pps and I wanted to tell you that I nurse in the front seat all the time and I always think someone is going to think I'm pulling a Brittany. I figure they can just walk on over and find out if they want to know.
