Will you be changing your work schedule?

I know it?s early to be thinking about this, but what are you work plans after baby? Do you intend to change your schedule or number of hours?

I currently work full-time, but I would love to either cut down to 32 hours per week or work a condensed schedule. I?d also love a work at home option for some days, even though I?d still put LO in daycare, obviously. We have insurance through me so being a SAHM is not really an option at this point. I also really like my job (I work as a marketing writer).

Yes! I cannot wait! I love love love my job, but I have been waiting for this baby for a long time. I will be a SAHM for a while, at least the first year. I will probably go in to work twice a week after the first three months. The idea of getting a baby sitter is terrifying though.

  • I don't think we will be changing my work hours at all after maternity leave.  I have a great job and a great boss who is super family friendly so if I do end up wanting to change I think it would be fine but I really love my job so I dont think we will be changing.  Also DH and I have a great schedule now that will be perfect for when the LO is here!

I do kind of like the idea of a condensed work schedule though!

  • I'm hoping to take off four to six months after the baby, then work at 80% time.  I can't decide if I'd rather work four normal days each week or five shorter days... Still so far away, but this is our plan for now.

  • I wish I could take extra time off or WFH at least one day a week once the baby comes, not sure how my boss is going to like that idea, something to throw around later I guess

Interesting...I never thought of 5 shorter days, but that could be nice!

  • We are planning on moving in September, so I will probably leave my current (full time) job and work part time as a quality analyst for DH's company until LO gets here. Whether or not I work after that depends on financial situations and how bad my cabin fever gets:-x

  • I wish I could work part time, but as it is, my boss is going to flip when I tell him I'm taking the full 12 weeks for mat leave.  I'm sure he's only expecting me to take like two because I'm the only one who does my job.  Oh well.

  • I would really like to go down to 32 hours (4 days) a week, but it is pretty doubtful that I will be able to.  Hopefully DH will soon be able to work from home so we will probably put the LO in daycare for a half day so DH can get some work done while I am at work and then work a few more hours when I get home or before I leave for work.

  • I am a teacher, so I cannot cut back on hours.  I will be taking off from January on.  I may go back in June so that I get credit for 1/2 year and move up a step on the salary guide.  Not sure yet.  But in September 2012, I will be back to work f/t.

  • not sure what my options are for this. definitely need to and want to work. love my job - was laid off for almost a year really don't want to give it up and do something else. have to see what my boss says and see if there is any option to pair working at home with a part time mother's helper and doing some work on nights and weekends. or finding full time affordable childcare - likely in a home daycare center. they just hired me on full time, although i've been here since jan.

  • I will continue to work full time. I would love to have a 32 hour a week schedule but with all our up coming changes I won't even bring it up till mid 2012 (if then). But I can shift my time as needed and work from home occasionally. My boss is pretty flexible if all is done. I don't love my job anymore but with so many plus staying here it is not time to make a change.
  • I'm a group fitness instructor...and I'm hoping to be able to go back and keep up my current schedule...I will have to stop way before my edd I'm sure...I know I will be antsy to get back to Zumba-ing after the baby is born!

  • I quit my job to SAH when I had DS in 07. Since then, I have WAH part time. I plan to continue this after baby arrives. I probably will only get 4 weeks off before I get back to it. It's nice because I still get to be with the kids and my schedule is flexible.

  • I think I'm going to propose working 3 full days a week and 1 half day for 28 hours a week. However - I know others around here who work part time but are basically expected to still get a full-time person's worth of work done, which is not the situation I want to end up in.

  • I still plan on working full time after maternity leave, but I'm hoping I can WFH at least 2 days a week. I already WFH three hours a day, so I don't think this will be too big a deal and my boss is pretty flexible as long as I get the work down and will come into the office for meetings/events as needed.

  • After my 6 weeks of maternity leave, I only have about 2.5 more months at my current job (boss knows this); and I'm going to propose covering those months part-time, so working 3 9-hour days a week, most likely.

Then I'm hoping to transition to a new P/T job. Maybe work from home? If I'm super lucky? We'll see what happens...
