has your dh's work done anything for baby?

just curious...

i know at my job if we had a guy in the office who was becoming a new dad, his team would throw them a little party at the office and get them gifts or one large gift card

with ds2, dh's work collected about $500 for us... oddly enough after that for dd1, even though he was at the same job, they did nothing lol

i'm pretty sure we won't get anything from dh's new job now, but it would be nice!! lol

Re: has your dh's work done anything for baby?

  • They are throwing us a shower next Friday. Actually, he doesn't even know about it (they want to surprise him), but one of his employees e-mailed me to make sure the date worked and that I could attend.

  • They haven't, and I don't know whether or not they will.  He's in a new department so he doesn't know what to expect.  I know at my job (primarily women) we look for any excuse to have a shower, or give gifts so we all chip in for a big gift, or lots of little gifts.  When our directors wife had their baby in December we bought him a lot of clothes for 6-12 months knowing from conversation that they didn't have any yet.  We also got them an exersaucer and some adorable luggage for LO when he's a bit older.

They didn't really register for much so we had to get stuff on our own and everyone else wanted to get gifts rather than a GC.  If I were at a point in our pregnancy that I was telling people I would have suggested a GC as the main gift, but no one was listening to me!

  • No. DH is an Iron Worker... The only thing he's getting from his co-workers is their advice to "Run Away" or "Man you're screwed". They may buy him a beer. I'm very greatful he does not have their mentality... lol. Atleast.. not when he's around me!

  • Nope.  Usually after the baby is born, an announcement goes out and someone takes up a collection of $ in case anyone wants to contribute.

  • DH's work had a shower last week for him/us.  It was a cookie cake and a few outfits and $100 to Target.  It was nice and he was happy to get to open a few gifts. :)
  • My hubby's work actually gave us more than mine - although he does have a lot more co-workers than i do :)
We got a $100 gift card and probably 5-6 outfits and other little goodies from his co-workers. There are 2 pregnant women at his work due around when I am due, so they did a big joint party for the two girls and my hubby. He was a little embarrased i think ;)

  • DH's work gave a nice gift.  They gave us a diaper gift box that includes jumbo packs of size 1, 2, and 3 diapers, a shutterfly book gift cert., and wipes.  We also received a beautiful Dr. Seuss quilt sewn by one of the women, as well as a $100 gift card to BRU.  We'll use it for a baby gate!

My hubby is an elementary teacher and works with mostly women so they are throwing us some type of shower before school on Wednesday.  They have been so sweet about it.  They planned a day that I could make it and asked my hubby how he felt about it.  His only request wad that he didn't want to open a ton of gifts in front of the whole school.  So we figure they will be giving us a gift card to BBRU and just having a get together with food.  That will be waay more comfortable for both of us!

  • Nope! Which is really annoying, because DH and I work at the same place. I've worked here for 7 1/2 years, and they've done absolutely NOTHING for us, except give me grief for extra pee breaks.

  • Nope. They did nothing when DD was born and i expect nothing but time off w/o hassle this time. DH works for 'family' I quote that because the manager is his BiL and its his dad's company. BiL and DH's sister bought us a gift and the other guys he works with (BiL's brother's) bought us gift cards. But that was because we're friends outside the music store. There was nothing given as a gift on the behalf of all the staff at the store.

  • Last friday DH's department threw us a surprise shower.  DH graduated with his MBA over the weekend so I thought we were just going to a lunch for him, but it turned out to be a baby shower.  We were so surprised and everyone was so generous.  We no longer need to buy anything on our registry and also got $165 in gift cards.  It was a little bit overwhelming, but so sweet of everyone to do that.  I was not expecting that at all.

  • My husband is a teacher, but he has not received anything from his co-workers yet.  He does run a student club, and the students threw him a shower (cute, I know!).  They got pink lemonade, a balloon, a hand-made card, and a handmade quilt.  It was super sweet of them.  He also takes classes for his Masters degree, and his classmates pitched in and got us a $150 Target giftcard.  We are saving it for diapers and wipes :)

  • DH has a small office here (only 2 other people besides him).  BUT they both gave us fabulous gifts for LO!

  • His work threw us a shower bbq, he works with a bunch of women and they're all very excited for us. =)

  • DH and I actually met when I was working for the same company out in Kansas City 4 years ago, so I've always been pretty close with his co-workers.  They actually threw me not DH a shower back in April.  Like a PP said, I got more goodies from DH's co-workers than from my own, and I work with a much larger team!

  • Dh works for a large corporation who will not do anything for him. I don't think his employees will do anything for him. I think it would be nice if the company did something but I don't think it should fall on his employees to do something.

My company is a small company and they won't do anything for me because the owner of the company doesn't have a soul and my boss isn't exactly warm and fuzzy either.

  • Sadly I don't think DH's work will do anything.  It's sad to me because he's busted his a$$ for them for over 3 years now.  I wish they'd just get him a card or something, it would mean so much to him!

  • Nope. Two of the girls got outfits though. My work hasn't either. I think a few of them do have gifts but not one showed to my shower.

No and I am actually surprised they haven't.  Really odd.  Maybe they are waiting until baby is born.

  • Yep.  I basket full of just about everything left on our Target registry. :)  They were very good to us!

My group generally has everyone chip in what they want, and then someone will go and buy a bunch of stuff off of the person's registry, for their first child, whether the person who works here is a man or woman.

I'm not sure if DH's group will do anything; I'm guessing not.  It's a group of entirely men (though they just hired two girls - both straight out of college, so they're not in the mindset to start any traditions like this), and others in his group have had kids since he's been there and he hasn't mentioned them doing anything for them.  Though, being a guy, even if they did do anything, not sure DH would mention it.

  • We work at the same place just different departments. Everyone knows both of us, they all chipped in and gave us a great shower gift close to $300 dollars. They are also doing a baby pool where you pay $5 to guess the date and time of when little one will arrive. Whoever wins would get half but they always give it back to the baby.
  • Nothing at my work or his.  His boss did ask him which hospital we will be at and which exit to take- really hoping he just sends flowers or something and doesn't stop by.

  • Nope.  Not a thing when we got married either.  I have a feeling that the HR lady will give us an outfit or something, but that will be from her personally not from the company.

  • I got a basket of onsies and diapers with a card which I thought was plenty, but then DH came home with a video monitor from his boss.... Indifferent I mean - I'm completely grateful but thought it was a bit much since I've met her maybe twice? It'll defiantly get used!

  • Nope. And we work together.

DH has been with the department longer than me. When he started we already had DD1. I was pregnant with DD2 when I was hired and they didn't do anything for me or him when I had her.

I assume it's becuase it wasn't my first baby because we've had a "shower" for every other woman who has had a baby since I started, but they were all having their first.

I am still bitter about it and now we never give money when they are collecting. If it's someone I like then I buy a gift myself, but I don't get involved in the office gift.

  • Oh yeah!  They gave us an amazing shower.  It put my work shower to shame.

It was a potluck and there was so much food.  I believe they gave us close to a thousand dollars worth of stuff.  I know for sure about 700 off our registries (including a MamaRoo and Pack N Play) and we got a lot of extra stuff that we didn't register for.

We were truly blessed and extremely grateful.

  • My H's employees got us a BRU gift card for $300. They gave it to us on his last day at his going away luncheon (he started a new job today after 18 years with the company!). My work didn't do anything!

  • Not sure, but he just started in March, so I am really not expecting them to do anything. But he just told me today that an older lady in his office knitted LO a blanket.

  • No. He's a radiology fellow at a large academic medical center.

Given his schedule, I consider the fact that he'll actually get a few days of paternity leave a gift in itself!!!!

  • Many of his coworkers will be going to his diaper party and many of the wives were invited to my shower (now granted, we do have a close group that we hang out with on occasion).

At my company, whenever someone has a baby (whether it's the mother or the father that is employee) they usually get a pretty big gift card (and this includes for adoptions...one of our VPs and his wife just adopted their second child from Russia).

  • DHs co workers have been a God sent to us! We've gotten a ton of hand me down clothes, a swing, a bassinet, bouncer, bottle sets, toddler car seat, $125 pair of  never worn baby lacoste shoes (who does that???)....the list is ridiculous. He works on a team with all women and they are throwing us a shower Wednesday. He's pretty much invited the whole building because he knows everyone and didn't want to piss anyone off. As appreciative as I am my social anxiety will be at an all time high that day, I really wish I could take a xanax lol
