Am I out of line for being irritated?

Over a month ago a friend asked if I could come to a Lia Sophia party tomorrow night. Her son and Lilly are buddies, so she said I could bring her with and her husband, who I am also friends with, would watch the kids while we hang out. I had this on our family calender for weeks because DH would still have to be around to watch Owen. Just a couple minutes ago my DH sends me an email saying he now has to meet a bride, who rescheduled a meeting, tomorrow night right at the same time I am supposed to go to my friends house. I understand this is his business and he has to work around their schedules too, but I am irritated b/c I just confirmed with her today and now I am going to have to back out. I find it hard to believe it's the one and only time she could meet. It's like whatever I have to do or have planned just doesnt really matter:(

  • I'd be really irritated.  The rule in my house, is that if it's on the calendar and one of us is scheduled to be with DD, and decides to make other plans, then THAT person needs to hire a babysitter for that time.  I have a busy social calendar and DH does too, and after the first "mix up" when DH double booked himself, I made it clear that wasn't going to fly again.

For your actual circumstance though, could you just bring both kiddos?  A Lia Sophia party sounds like something you could arrive and leave within 90 minutes...?

  • I can see both sides of your situation but I think it's natural to be irritated.  I often feel that DH thinks his schedule is more important than mine based on what he's earning during that time (eventhough thats not his actual thought process...just my reaction to circumstances).
