itchy legs

This is a long shot but its gotten a little out of hand so I figured I would ask here before making a fool of myself and calling my midwives...did anyone have really really really itchy legs during pregnancy? For the past week my legs have been SO itchy that I end up getting huge welts and what looks like rashes all over my legs. At first I just thought it was dry skin but I put lotion on at least twice a day and nothing helps!

I took benadryl last night for other allergies and it helped a little but I seriously don't know whats going on. It is only on my legs and I haven't been using any new products (soap, detergent, etc.) The only thing that has changed since I started having the itching problems last week was I went off my zofran pump (woo hoo!) but I dont remember having any problems like this last time. Any ideas of what this could be? Do you think its pregnancy related or just some weird reaction? I am seriously ready to put socks on my hands to try and stop itching while I wait for DH to get back from the store with aloe and calamine lotion.

Re: itchy legs

  • I had it all over with DS2 and DD.  I put topical Benadryl on it and it would ease it.  I don't know if there is anything for it.  Just par for the course.

  • I had horrible itching on and off during my pregnancy. Sometimes it was my stomach, sometimes my calves/thighs, sometimes my arms and shoulders. It drove me nuts and I scratched it so much that ended up with welts and scratches and it hurt horribly. I ended up buying hardcore lotion to put on immediately after bathing (literally the second I left the shower). I used Eucerin Intensive Care. It is so thick and greasy that it felt kind of nasty going on, but it worked at keeping the skin moisturized. On top of that, I'd put anti-itch lotion if it got bad.

    GL getting rid of it!

  • Not in my legs, but in my arms and stomach. In fact, that's how I knew I was pregnant (before POAS) with W.
  • A friend of mine had a pregnancy induced rash that went away after she delivered.  Maybe this is a form of that?

  • That sounds so horrible. I'm no help, but I hope you get some relief very soon. I hate itching, it's the pits!

  • It could be PUPPPs, which is not a problem except that it's REALLY annoying and very itchy. I somehow came down with it after I delivered. OMG -- horrible. :( I feel your pain.

PUPPPS usually comes on much later and starts on your stomach.  You will see little tiny bumps.  It is worth a call to your doctor if you have the little bumps.  I was MISERABLE.
