Babies with hiccups

Lately I've been feeling the baby hiccup frequently, a few times a day. I googled it and learned that the baby hiccups in utero when the amniotic fluid goes into their lungs. I thought they always had amniotic fluid in their lungs, super confusing. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Re: Babies with hiccups

  • Q hiccuped ALL the time (it's how I did my kick counts because they happened every night).  A hiccup is like a tickle of the diaphragm.  Now that he's here, he still is a big hiccupper...less now that he's older.  They have never seemed to bother him in the slightest.

  • Not sure.  I think hiccups are normal.  DS had them a lot when I was pregnant and when he was younger.  DS # 2 is seeming to get them a lot - on a daily basis.
  • G got them every day, sometime multiple times a day when I was PG with him. Now he's still a pretty major hiccuper. Every time he laughs really hard he gets them, so usually once a day.
  • Thank you for all the info ladies! I think this lo is going to have tons of hiccups when she's out in the real world because she is huccuping a few times a day.

  • O had hiccups constantly when I was pregnant! And when he was a little baby he got them all the time. They never seemed to bother him in the least, though. Even now, he can fall asleep while having a major hiccup attack!
