What to give for a baptism?

My husband is the godfather at a dedication ceremony this weekend.  From what we understand it's a baptism but in a non-denominational christen church.  My husband wants to give his godson a special present but we have no idea.  Suggestions?

Re: What to give for a baptism?

  • I have always known it be the norm to give money in some form at a baptism for the baby - whether it is a check, savings bond etc. It is to help start the account for the baby's future.

  • My family has always done saving bonds.

  • I also think it's appropriate to give a religious gift, like a cross to hang in LO's room, religious childrens books, etc. My LO's baptism is in a few weeks and now I'm curious what people will give her.

My husband would like to give him more of keepsake then a savings bond.  He wants to give him something special from his godfather that years from now he'll still have.
  • Maybe a gold cross on a necklace? And maybe have the child's name engraved on it?

  • When DH was the godfather a few years ago we did a pretty cross for the baby's room and a saving's bond.  He'll have all of his birthdays and special occasions to get him things that he will remember.

  • In addition to pps, we have done photo albums. They make small baptism ones and then the parents will have a place to put their pictures just from that day.
  • I think a children's bible with a note from B on the inside or something personalized would be a great gift.

For C's dedication he received a children's bibles, photo album / frame, money, and a framed dedication message. The framed thing is the best keepsake because it tells what a dedication is and is personalized with his name and dedication date. My mom got it for him and I asked her to email with ordering info- I'll forward it to you. The most valuable gifts are his children's bibles because we read a little bit before bed every night, so they are something that he will grow up being familiar with.
