Re: First word/s

  • J does this too. I figure I will "count" it when he looks straight at whatever it is he says and then meaningfully says the word, to where I know he knows what he is talking about. Although for us, I heard 'mamamamama' first so maybe I should just go ahead and claim that's his first word...

Well, at this point, those things are usually just experiments with his voice. He might learn at a basic level that mamama roughly means you, but for the most part, they aren't quite words yet until he says them with meaning. The repeated syllable babbling comes now, then next you get just random babbling (some of which really sound like words, but without meaning, it's just noise).

DS is saying all sorts of random stuff, but none of it is with meaning yet.  He just found the "th" sound yesterday, and it comes with a lot of spit - it's hysterical.

  • Good question...I was wondering the same thing.  DS is just starting to babble some syllables now.  I haven't heard mama or dada yet, but he was saying gaga which I thought was hilarious.
