recommendation for windshield replacement?

I am going to have to replace the windshield in my van.  I have no idea how much it's going to cost and have a list of places to call tomorrow.  But I thought I'd ask on here and see if anyone has an recommendations.

 TIA!

Do you have glass coverage with your auto insurance?  Every time I've had a windshield issue, I've always just called the number on my insurance card.  They've always come to me and fixed it where I told them I was going to be.  Usually it's been Safelite that comes.

This!   You should have glass coverage.  We've had a driver side window on our old Jeep Liberty and my Current Kia windshield replaced through our insurance.  I think we paid somewhere between $50-$100 towards it.

  • I used Safelite recently and was really happy with their service. They came to my work and replaced the windshield on the spot. For some reason, I do not have glass coverage so I had to pay for it. I called around and they weren't the cheapest but they also weren't the most expensive at right around $200. (And this post has reminded me that I need to call my insurance company and find out why I don't have glass coverage!)

  • I have also used Safelite with no issues.

Darn... just called our insurance company and we don't have glass insurance.  They will waive our deductible if we can have it repaired, but it's definitely going to need to be replaced.  Thanks for the recommendations!

  • Century auto glass in Colerain, they replaced the windshield on my mazda 3 and it was done fast and inexpensively with good materials.

If you're in Kentucky, call Ryan's autoglass.

  • We've always used Mel's Auto Glass.

  • I am the lucky girl that has had experience with 3 of these companies -- Ryan's All Glass, Mel's Auto Glass and Safelite.

I had the best experience with Ryan's and I highly recommend them.  Mel's does good work and so does Safelite.  I don't know much about the price differences since insurance covered it for me every time, but you can't go wrong with any of them.

Thanks!  So far, Ryan's has been the least expensive, but I haven't called Mel's yet.

  • I wouldn't necessarily go with the cheapest, if it's a car that you plan to keep for awhile.  Also, it would make a difference in price if they plan to use OEM vs. aftermarket parts.
