I know it's been around for years and years, but do you think it's going the way of trendy?
This baby will be here in about three weeks and we are never going to decide, I swear. We are stuck mostly between Willa and Louisa/Lucy. I know Lucy is pretty popular (#75 on the SSA list), but it has more family meaning to us and we only know 1 Lucy. Not to mention we also have a daughter Elisabeth, so popularity isn't our deciding factor, obviously. I LOVE Willa, but wonder if I will regret it because it is more unique, but if it's a name that's becoming trendier. Thoughts?

I don't think so. It has seen a bit of a rise with the urban hipster/literati set, but I still think it's a fairly love/hate name. I can't see it suddenly catching on with people who wouldn't have considered it before.
I like it, but I really love Louisa. Either way, though, you can't go wrong. I guess you could make your final decision based on whether you admire Willa Cather or Louisa May Alcott more.

I prefer Louisa/Lucy. It is classic and will age well.
Willa reminds me of Willow. It is a pretty name, it is just very earthy. I picture Willa with tie-dye, bell bottoms and peace signs.

I really like Willa, I picture a strong willed tomboy girl, the kind who stands up for the kid who is getting picked on.
I also love Lucy, I picture a sweet good natured girl who loves flowers and shares her cookies with others.
i know- pretty random but thats what came to mind!
No, it isn't really trendy. It did break into the top 1,000, this year, but very far down the list (#968). I checked the number of Willas for the last few years, and it does not seem to be shooting up at all (262 in 2010, 252 in 2009, 246 in 2008, 201 in 2007, etc.).
I suppose it is "trendy" in that it is one of the short, sweet, old lady names that is in fashion now (Cora, Clara, Ruby, Stella, Mae, etc.), but the name itself is not trending very strongly.
The only caution is what anna7602 noted ? its popularity is probably concentrated among highly educated urban elites, so if you live in Ann Arbor, it might be trendier than if you live somewhere more suburban or rural.

I was an English Lit major (just fyi haha), and I really like Willa. I guess it fits some trends (shorter, vintage, literary names) but I wouldn't call it "trendy." I doubt it will ever soar high in rankings.
That said, I like the name Antonia (the main character in Willa Cather's "My Antonia") better than Willa.
I am not a fan of Louisa... it's a very rural county in my area.
Lucy is sweet but I've always felt it doesn't "grow up" well.
I don't think Willa is very trendy. I am not a fan, I think the whole "Will" thing throws me for a loop. I did date a jerk named Will so I am probably not the best judge though lol.
LOVE Louisa!
I do not think Willa will ever be 'trendy'. A tad more popular sure, but I really don't see it catching on as a trend.
I like Lucy. Willa is alright.
Me too. Love Louisa!
Francesca Pearl is here! Josephine Hope is almost 3!

I really like Willa and Lucy. Lucy seems to go better with your other DD's names though.
