Stay at Home Moms

What's your hobby?

We just moved to a new city a few months ago, so I'm still trying to meet other moms and make friends.  We go to playdates, the gym, library time, etc. all throughout the week.  I'm looking to start a hobby that I can do without DH and DS (I'm starting to feel like the nanny- DH plays tennis, goes to car meets, etc.!)

So, I'm looking for suggestions - what do you like to do on your own time?

  • I have a book club, a theater group, a playgroup ladies (and SAHDs) night, and I sew.  Those are my main hobbies.
  • I used to draw a lot. Charcoal and colored pencils mainly. After that it was cake decorating. Took some classes at JoAnn's.  Then went to knitting, but that was short lived.  Now I'm looking for a new one.  I'm leaning towards beading/jewelry making or something like that.

As soon as the kids are all in school, I'm taking up drawing and cakes again.

I like yoga.  I had in my last yoga studio a group of ladies and we would do coffee after class and just hang out in general.  Also your local parks should host free hikes here and there or there should be a hiking club if you think you'd be interested.  Not only is that a good way to meet people it is a good family activity.
  • Gym

Sew (mostly after the girls are in bed, though)

  • I scrapbook and make cards, I'm (slowly) learning to crochet, and I go through jewelry making phases. My favorite thing to do is scrapbook. :)

Have you looked into mom's groups where you are? I see it says you're in Switzerland, but I'm sure there are groups there like there are here :) My mom's group offers evening mom-only activities once a week and it makes a world of a difference to my mental health to be able to get out regularly w/out the kids! ;)

  • I read and I used to scrapbook before DD came along. I really, really want to get back to it, I have all the supplies and everything, just don't have the space and time right now. Hopefully once we move to a bigger place I can set up my table and be more motivated to make time for it.

  • I love to read - I will go to a coffee shop by myself and sit and read.

I also love to cook, bake and workout.  I also enjoy time alone either at our neighborhood pool or at the beach :)

  • Drinking.

    Hehe. Just kidding. Sorta ;)

I have a blog - like everyone - that is all DS, all the time. So there's that. But hobbies? Hmmm... I guess I gave those up when DS was born.

    Now I has a sad.

    Baking. I love it!

Also, crafty-type things.  I used to scrapbook but pretty much gave it up when I had DD since it took me a year to complete my first, and only scrapbook.  I got into making felt flowers and made a cool yarn wreath with them.  I've also made things like birthday banners for the LOs.

  • My new favorite hobby is refinishing furniture! I love to sand, prime and paint old peices of furniture and bring them back to life. I never thought I would enjoy it so much but the end sense of accomplishment is indescribable! I love it. I also enjoy going to flee markets, salvation army and such and finding these little beaten CHEAP bookcases, dressers or chairs and then turning them into something beautiful and useful for the house!
  • I do genealogy and ballroom dance.
  • I love to read. Otherwise, I don't really have any hobbies. I need to work on this.

  • I love going to yard sales and antique shops and decorating my house with what I find. I refinish some things. I also love photography (I'm trying to get better and learn more), gardening and entertaining. I want to get more into Zumba after I have the baby since I started right before I got pregnant and didn't get very good at it. I think during the winter I'll try to teach myself to play the guitar. Sounds like a lot of hobbies, but I have to stay busy or I start feeling pretty depressed.
