Just need some comfort

Z had a night terror. Terrifying for everyone. He woke up screaming like he was in pain. Wouldn't wake up, wouldn't be comforted. DH and I were almost worried he was having a siezure or something. Took about 10 minutes for him to calm down and them everything was ok. Never knew 10 minutes could feel like a lifetime. I've been all over google all morning, most often night terrors are caused by being overtired. Which he certainly was. Went to bed 2 hours late. Hoping this doesn't become normal. Thanks for listening ladies

  • Ahh poor thing!  He'll be fine though and forget all about it.

My DS wakes up from EVERY nap and bedtime screaming bloody murder. It is so stressful for me.  It usually lasts 10-45 minutes and I have to try everything to get him to snap out of it.  He's a miserable waker but I don't think its night terrors for him. He's a great sleeper and enjoys going to sleep.  He just hates waking up.

  • Oh my, I TOTALLY understand! ((HUGS)) My daughter doesn't/didn't have them but the 4 year old little boy I babysit does and OMG he's not even mine and it still brings me to tears every time! It's so horrifying, especially the first time...and since his parents didn't warn me. (UGH) but they say they grow out of it. Hopefully if it really was because he was overtired then it won't happen again for you.

If you're interested, Ferber has a good chapter on night terrors. I only skimmed over it as it was never anything we had to deal with.  I do recall pp's mention that they tend to grow out of them.  Hope that this is the only one you guys have to experience!

  • Hugs! They are very scary! My DD gets them when over tired, too. Every time it still scares me. Actually if I touch DD she screams more and pushes me away. I normally just sit next to her now. It last about 10 minutes, too.
