Now I know what it means...

Whenever people would post that their LOs let them know they needed an earlier bedtime, I didn't get it. But on Thursday and Friday night, LO was a crankasaurus starting at about 7:45 (we usually start to put him down for bed at about 8:30). So last night, we planned on starting to put him down at about 7:30, figuring we'd sidestep the crankiness, and he fell asleep in his swing at 6:30. I dreamfed him at about 8:45 (assuming he'd wake up), but he stayed asleep, and I put him down, and he slept until 3 am. That was his longest sleep stretch yet. And he woke up for the day at 6 am totally pleasant and happy.

So I am pretty sure we'll be trying to get him to bed between 6:30 and 7:30 tonight.

  • That's great!

I always marvel at my one brother, whose 3 year old son has not once in his entire young life gone to bed before 10 pm - often it's 11:00 or midnight.  They put him down at all sorts of inconsistent, late hours, and they have to wake him up to take him to daycare the next morning.  Either he's the only kid on earth who doesn't show signs that he's tired, or my brother is a bit of an idiot.  Because when they visit us his son starts showing tired signs around 7:30 or 8:00.  I don't say anything because I know I don't like getting unsolicited parenting advice, but man, I feel like screaming "put him to bed NOW you fools!"

    wow.

I know that I'm a little insane about making sure that we adhere to a consistent and early bedtime, but I can't imagine wanting my kid up that late. If for no other reason than just wanting some non-kid time!!

And mssaint, conrgrats!! that's a great stretch of sleep. the power of the early bedtime is always so surprising :-)

OMG. I will admit DH and I are sometimes slow to figure things out (I blame sleep deprivation), but I can't imagine getting to 3 years old and still having the kid go to bed at 10 or 11. Of course, LO is SO cranky when he's tired that putting him to sleep is our only defense, lol.

  • that's awesome for you!

artslvr, your bro is an idiot LOL  maybe you should say something...you know "wow, I can't believe he's still up, I know my DD would be dead by now" - you know for the sake of your nephew

  • Congrats!!

I admit, we still put H to bed on the late side - she went down at 11 tonight for instance.  I know we need to start moving her bedtime up both for our own good and hers esp. if we might avoid the evening crankiness that appears nearly every day....but we don't have to wake her early in the morning to get to daycare and she sleeps until 9:30/10a most days so I don't feel too bad at the moment.
