Brady's Here! My opposite of birth plan birth story.

Brady James entered the world at 7:42pm on May 19th. He is a stunning and perfect little man.

Ladies, my birth plan was to have an epidural.  I planned to labor at home until I got uncomfortable enough to go to the hospital, get my epidural, and have a baby.

I was 2cm dilated at my Dr's appointment on Wed, and I woke up at 5am on Thurs with contractions.  They were not that bad, and inconsistent.  I got up, showered, did a bit of shopping (got new pajama pants for the hospital), wandered in the mall etc.

After I got a pedicure at one, I went home and the contractions had started to get closer together.  I called my Dh to come home from work.  By three they were more painful and closer. We called the hospital at 4 and asked about coming in.  They decided I was still in early labor and encouraged me to stay home a while longer.  I decided to take a bath and about an hour and a half later we decided to go in.

Once we got in the car, I knew we had waited too long. The conractions were coming every two minutes apart, and were crazy strong.  The admitting lady took forever filling out the paperwork, and once we got up to L&D, the nurse took her time getting my urine sample, taking blood pressure etc.  I felt like I was dying at this point.  When she finally checked me, I saw her eyes widen, and she told me I was 9.5 cm.  I immediately said "I want an epidural!" and she said, "Honey, you can't have one, you're going to go have a baby!".  They wheeled me into the birthing room (wouldnt let me walk) and instructed me to push.  I was so in denial, saying I couldn't do it, and I wanted an epi and this wasn't happening.  We started pushing, and although it felt incredibly unnatural to me, it took about 1/2 an hour, and Brady was born, screaming, into the world.

I didn't think I could do it, and I did.  I am so happy with my little man. I still think I'll get an epi next time though :)

I'll put a picture into my siggy when I get a free moment.
