My mom's "get-the-baby-out" advice

I just got a text from my mom asking if I was effaced at all at my appointment yesterday.  My mom and I aren't close, and I don't particularly care to discuss my cervix with her, but I responded anyway.  She then asked if I'd like a tip that would help speed things along.  I texted that nothing people typically suggest has worked so far, and she replied,

"Drink a two-liter Mountain Dew, do married stuff, then walk 2 miles."

..."married stuff," Mom?  Really?  I was tempted to say, "We actually just had really wild sex twice, and nothing yet!  I'll keep you posted!"  But I just blushed and awkwardly replied that I'm home alone today.  

This advice is coming from the mother who, when I told her I was pregnant, said, "No!  I've been telling people you're still a virgin!  They're never going to believe me now."  And we'd been married for months.

    I think I would puke if I drank a 2 liter of Mountain Dew

    Your moms a kook. Smile I drink caffeine often (I've been craving it) and all it does is give me a tummy ache. I walk my dogs daily. And nothing has happened. And as for married stuff, I'm really tired of this advice, from what most of the ladies on this board have said it doesn't seem to work, and my DH doesn't like the idea of sex right now (I don't blame him at all.)

    This is definitely not the case for my DH.  But sex hasn't triggered labour yet, just painful contractions that go away after a few hours.  I also drink caffeine daily, and I don't think it causes/affects contractions at all...

    Hmm.. so this is the reason I have been wanting Mountain Dew for the last week? If I go and finally drink one it will work??? Do you think if I do my 2 mile walk to and from the store and skip the married stuff it will still work??

    I say go for it!  Maybe you could add in some weight-lifting; just power walk with the 2 liter on your way back from the store.  You won't get strange looks, promise.

    I was telling my husband about this and we were laughing hysterically at the thought of me walking back from the store chugging a 2 liter of MD.. the neighbors wouldnt talk at all!

    So I remember you saying you and your parents are having religious differences now. Are they like Amish? Why would she think you didn't have sex after marriage? You don't have to answer if it's too personal.

    They're not Amish, just part of a very strict religious denomination, but I'm sure she was kidding about the no sex thing.  I guess she just didn't like the idea of her 19-year-old having sex.  But you'd think a parent would be more concerned if their daughter got married and didn't have sex, right?

    My dad thought for some crazy asss reason that I was still a virgin when he found out I was pregnant. He is oblivious and religious. The only thing I could say when he told me that was "who do you think I am? you married MY mother right...." Not that my mom is easy or anything but she's very....open I guess you could say. I would just say he's not shy, and she's really fun and leave it at that.
