so i made my first successful fitted diaper! *pats self on back*
i don't have a serger.... but my machine has a serging/pin leaf stitch on it... so i decided to try it out and see if it would work better than a zigzag as far as fraying goes...
which it did to an extent, however, i couldn't get it to look quite right. according to my manual, it says i may need to tighten the tension to achiieve the desired look... i did tighten it some, but didn't notice much difference. the main thing i found that helped was adjusting the stitch length, but i still couldn't get it quite right..
hopefully you can see it in the pic, but it's like they're too close together and then there's a space, and then too close together, and so on. by adjusting the stitch width to pretty much as close together as i could, i got this result, which was the closest i could get to a "serged" look... any farther apart in length and i still got a similar result only worse... it was still bunched together, then a gap, bunched together, then gap, but they were too far apart if that make sense... basically it kind of looked more like a zigzag than below.
i don't know if that made sense, but if anyone could help me adjust my machine to get a more "serged" look i'd appreciate it!
and btw, it sure did use up a ton of thread! but i do think it worked better than a regular zigzag. but i think i still want a serger! :-(
Re: sewing help - serging stitch on regular machine??
hmm.. i don't think i have an overcast foot but i'll double check. i've got a ton of extra feet w/mine so it's possible i do, but i'll have to dig through them w/my manual to make sure lol.
i'll check next time i get up (jts starting to get harder to get up these days lol)
is this the overcast foot? i can't quite tell from the picture, but this is the closest foot i have to the picture....
