Pregnant after 35

The fatigue is really kicking my butt

I can not believe how incredibly exhausted I am - I don't know how much of this is 1st Tri or "old age" - I *do not* remember it being like this (last time I had a baby was 19 years ago, though).

I can't sleep past 4:30a.m. because for some reason between then and 9a.m. I'm on a 30-60 minute pee cycle.  By 11a.m. my body is just aching to be in a horizontal position, and even with an ability to steal naps, I'm super tired all the time.

What I do have similar to my earlier pregnancies is vertigo/dizziness (varies in severity)  and while I do not remember having morning sickness *at all* way back when, I have it quite steadily now.  When that and the dizzies coincide, I can barely shift my weight in an position without immediately thinking how much better life would feel asleep on the floor.

I'm taking all the vitamins, drinking plenty of fluid and up until three days ago exercised fairly regularly...but the last three days I've been too zonked.

Is the fatique *supposed* to be all this encompassing?

  • I so hate the first trimester.  Man.

I was really tired and crabby, all the time.  If exercise is kicking your butt, try prenatal yoga.  It seemed to help me feel less like a complete slug.

  • I'm always tired. It's so depressing. Matter of fact, I just woke up from a 2.5 hour nap. It's awful...

  • i'm exhausted all.the.time.  been going to bed by 9pm.

i think age just exacerbates an already rough phase.

  • Yes I can relate to this too!!! My first tri this go round was brutal. I could take a two hour nap and then sleep another 9 or 10 hours at night. The pee thing was torture (only now is it subsiding at 16 weeks...and will surely return by tri 3). I do think my every other day nap schedule REALLY helped me. And taking small moments to stop, sit and just rest. I hope you feel better (and more rested) soon!!

  • I still have days like that.  The other day I actually took a nap in the car before I had the energy to drive home!  (I have a 60 minute commute each way).

I think that it's not age related but responsibility related.  I know that with my first 2, if I was tired, I dropped everything and took a nap - or I would turn down whatever activity/event that was planned.  Now I don't have that luxury.  I have to keep going no matter what.  I can't call in "sleepy" to work, my teens can't drive themselves to sports, and I feel responsible to be a good (pregnant) wife to DH.  I feel selfish if I want to go lay down for an hour and let the rest of the world takes care of itself.

It does get better though - DH thought I was pretty much dying in my first tri - and I didn't even let on just HOW completely exhausted I was....

  • All the responses have made me feel better and less like a slug. Today I could hardly get off the couch. all I fantasize about these days is sleeping.

My 20month old toddler takes one 2 hour nap from around lunchtime and i try to rest during that time too, but ill be damned if I get one more visitor during that time ill scream. I really need that down time with a very busy toddler.

I do think it gets harder as we get older.
