How did you sell your baby stuff?

Did you sell it at a yard sale, on Craig's list or consign it?  I have several items that I want to sell but not sure which is the best way.  I've never done Craig's list or a consignment shop so I don't know if it's worth it.  We're having a yard sale this weekend in our community so I thought I could put a few things out but I am not sure how to price my items.  For example, a high chair only used by 1 child.  What would you charge for that at a yard sale compared to Craig's list?  It was $100 new and is still in very good condition.

Thanks for any suggestions.

  • I think you would probably make more money posting items on Craigslist but it would take a lot more time and effort.  As to pricing, on Craigslist I generally see items posted for 50% or less of the original price.

  • If I choose the Craig's list route, do people usually come to your house and pick the item up?  Do they try to bargin down the price?

    Thanks.

  • The short answer is yes.  You can set a different place for people to pick up (your place of work or a local shopping plaza).  But since folks flake a bit on Craigslist, people often chose their home so they don't feel like they are wasting time.  If you do that, you can always set the time so someone else is there with you if you are worried.  And yes, many folks like to bargain.  You of course can hold firm or counter with a number more to your liking, but you may want to build 5-10 dollars into your price to account for that.
  • Thanks for your help.  :)

  • When I purchase stuff from Craigs List I always at least attempt to negotiate.  So yeah, I'd build that into your price.

  • I've sold tons of baby stuff on Craigslist.  I usually price everything for about 1/2 of what it's sold for now.
