Weird vaginal symptoms (probably TMI)

I'm about 9 weeks PP. A few weeks ago, after the PP bleeding had stopped, I noticed that things still weren't feeling quite right "down there". I have been having a burning feeling when I pee, but it doesn"t feel the same as a UTI. The burning is from when the pee hits the skin in that area, rather than that more internal burning feeling from a UTI. I've also been having some weird yellowish discharge that looks sorta like mucous (sorry, gross).

I had my 6 week pp last week (it was actually closer to 8 weeks pp because I had to reschedule my original appt due to stomach bug). I described my symptoms to the MW. She said my stitches had healed great (from my 3rd degree tear), but that I did look a little red and irritated in the vaginal area. She took a culture to test for bacterial and yeast infections.

I finally heard back on the results, and they came up negative. I was really surprised, because I thought for sure that I had some kind of bacterial infection. She wants me to do a urine test just to rule out a UTI, but if that comes back negative she said my symptoms could be a result of vaginal dryness due to low estrogen from breastfeeding. She would prescribe me an estrogen cream.

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. I'm kind of reluctant to try the estrogen cream, but I am so tired of feeling this way, and I'd really like to finally have sex with DH again.

Re: Weird vaginal symptoms (probably TMI)

  • I'm having some similar symptoms and I'm chalking it up to vaginal dryness due to hormones and I'm just putting up with it so far. I would be reluctant to try estrogen cream... if hormonal birth control with estrogen is a problem for bf'ers, wouldn't estrogen cream be too? I'm sorry I'm not much help.

  • I've had very similar symptoms, and my OB said the same thing, vaginal dryness caused by breastfeeding. She prescribed estrogen cream, which I haven't used because I don't want it to mess with my supply.

  • I feel like I had similar systems as well at about 3 weeks pp.  I was wearing pantiliners every day even though I wasn't bleeding.  I haven't worn it for the past few days, and feel much better down there.  I think the area just wasn't getting ventilated enough!
