Random high fever question

Ok, so when Alayna woke up this morning...she was super warm.

I checked her temp and it was 102.9
Gave her tylenol...checked it a few hours later, and it was 102.6. Gave her more tylenol.

She has been super happy and playful today. She has no symptoms of being sick.
No crying, no diarrhea, no snot, no puke...she just has a fever.

Ive checked her mouth, and see no teeth coming in (her teething fevers have always been 100.5 or less)

We gave her a lukewarm bath about 30 mins ago, and more tylenol.

Her temp was 102.4

WTF is up with my kid?

Re: Random high fever question

  • DD had something similar last week. Just a high fever, nothing else. It lasted about 3 days. Her fever was up to 104.3. I took her to the pedi, but they just said to ride it out. She told me as far as how high is too high-105. I found that ibuprofen lowered her temperature better than tylenol. Hope your DD is feeling better soon!

I would dress her very lightly. My pedi told me to alternate ibuprofen and tylonal. So give a dose of Tylonal, then 4 hours later Ibprofen, then 6 hours later back to tylonal. Also make sure you are giving the dose based on her weight not age. Try and increase her fluids as well. If she's happy then awesome, but if her fever gets to 103 for over a day or even higher I'd take her to the doctor to get her checked. Could be a UTI or other infection that just isn't bothering her just yet, you don't want it to get too bad. GL

  • We had a similar thing last week. Pedi just said to treat it like a virus.  He ended up with a rash a couple of days later from it, too. Fun times.
  • DD has had that twice now... first time it was 4 days of a fever and nothing else.  Second time it was 3 days.  Both times doc said it was a virus and to just ride it out.  I give ibuprofren, but that's because DD gags from tylenol :)
