pregnant....with a cold :( any suggestions

I'm a teacher so germs circulate regularly and I have come down with a cold...and I am miserable. I am the type to down nyquil and push Mucinex DM (my lifesaver as an educator) at the first sign of a cold, so I am totally stumped right now as to how to handle this without medication...any suggestions?

  • I am in the same boat, and have been dealing with the worst headcold for about a week now.  Yesterday I finally called the dr, and they said it was ok to take sudafed (and even the kind you have to show your license for).  I took it once and within an hour everything cleared out....of course it's back now.  I'm trying to take it half as much as is allowed if I can.

Sufaded and nasal spray decongestant are on my ok list.  I like the nasal spray better but it doesn't clear out my ears, so I had to switch back to the sufaded.

I hope you feel better soon.

Yes, Sudafed has been my life saver this week. Big Smile I have tried not to take too much but the Dr. said taking it as prescribed is just fine.
  • Sudafed, actifed, musinex, and tylenol cold are all on my ok list.  I'd call and check with your provider on what they suggest if they haven't already given you a list.

  • I'm right there with ya! I work at a hospital, though. I have been there 7 months without being sick, and as soon as I find out I'm pregnant, this hits. Ugh!

My doctor said Sudafed (not PE, just regular Sudafed) and Tylenol Severe Cold.

  • Yep, sudafed as needed.  Honestly, basically anything cold-related that doesn't have aspirin in it.  If you have questions or can't remember what your Dr said, talk to the pharmacist when you pick it up.

Also, try saline nasal drops at the first sign of a cold (next time, obviously).  I'm very prone to allergy related sinus infections and at the first congestion or sinus pain, I'd rinse my nose out with the spray.  It works wonders and keeps you from having to use medication.

  • Thank you very much for the suggestions!! I made it through the day today with just the nasal spray (all we had in the house), but first thing tomorrow I will be at CVS!!
