Hello, my twins were born at 34 weeks exactly. They stayed in the special care nursery for 3 weeks before coming home. They have been doing great over all. My question is that they have been chokers since a month old, one daughter more then the other. As they are getting older it is decreasing but it still happens every so often. They just turned seven months and are still using the Avent #2 which is for 1m+, this is a slow flow. I tried the 3m+ which is a med flow and they did not adjust well, they choked and then gave up on the bottle. They were around 3 months of age when I switched from the number 1, 0m+ to the number 2. I don't know too much about the "adjusted age", I hear that mentioned every so often but do you think although they are 7 months they may be where a 5 &1/2 month old is for feeding? Does this make sense or am I way off here?
This may not even be a problem, please tell me if I should not be concerned right now... I know all babies are not the same but knowing that a sippy cup should be in the near future, how can we get there if they are not ready for a med flow? Should I keep working on it or let time pass before trying again? Anyone else go through this? Any suggestions? Thank you!!!!
Re: question re: Nipple flow
Honestly I wouldn't worry about it. If the slower flow makes them comfortable then keep using it. A sippy cup is a different action and mouth shape from sucking so I think you'd be fine. (I could be wrong though)
Good luck!
Thank you very much for your responses, I feel much better.
