Girls with outside babies: Water Breaking

How many of you had your water break before going into labor? I have been running around doing errands and have this horrible fear my water is going to break when I'm out alone. I know that most peoples don't burst, but just curious how many of yours actually broke.

I had been having horrible contractions for 10 hours before mine broke.

I think only 10% of women have their water break as the first sign of labor.

I had been in labor all day before my water broke at 7 (at home on the toilet). Went to the hospital at 8. Baby at 9:55.

Chances of your water breaking while running errands are slim. There's not much you can do to stop it anyways. I say keep doing normal daily things and if it happens it happens.

Mine broke as I was getting out of bed in the middle of the night, and it was definitely the first major sign of active labor. I had a few contractions before that but had been sleeping through them. However, the baby's head was so low, fluid only came on while I was having a contraction. Don't worry too much about it. If it happens, it happens. Just keep some towels in your car. They came in handy when we were driving to the hospital.

Mine broke on its own. I woke up and got up to go pee and my underwear got soaked. I would say it was 1/2 cup - a cup of fluid. Then it leaked slowly for the rest of the day.

I had been having contractions 12 hours before my water broke.

It was hollywoodesque.

I was "slowdancing" with my husband, going through a contraction, and my body LITERALLY started shaking a bit, and all of a sudden SPLAT. a ton of water came out, as if my body was a mop water bucket. DH laughed and said "Well, we don't have to worry about whether your water broke or not". It went ALL over the floor, all over his shoes, his pants, everywhere.... EVERYWHERE.

After that, with every contractions, I'd "pee" amniotic fluid constantly. I swear, my belly must have had a ton of amniotic fluid, since I'd pee forcefully with every contraction. I never had a bowel movement on anyone, but I peed on EVERYONE. EVERYONE. yep.

I was awoken by a really sharp pain below my belly button. I got up and used the bathroom and got back into bed. As soon as I rolled over I felt liquid start seeping out and in less than a minute, wet through all my clothing.

My water didn't break with either one. They ruptured it for me at about 20 hours into labor with K and right before I was ready to deliver J.

Mine happened Hollywood style while getting up in the middle of the night to pee. It seems from the previous posts that if it happens, it is usually at night. Hopefully that makes you feel better? : )

With DD#1, the OB broke my water after hours of labor @ the hospital. With DD#2, my water broke at home while I was bent over the washer doing laundry - Very Hollywood-like..... Big gush of fluid that made me look like I peed my pants.

With DD mine broke before I started having contractions. But, I've peed my pants more than what came out when it broke!haha

This time, the midwife broke my water when I started pushing.

MinE broke with ZERO warning while getting into my car to go to work at 7:30am. It was just like the movies... Gushing everywhere. Tons. No contractions before it happened. With DD1, it broke with no warning also (at home) but was more like a constant small trickle. So with both kids, water broke as first sign of labor, very few contractions on own.

Mine started leaking at about midnight while watching the tina fey SNL on dvr, but no contractions. went to bed got up at 8, went to the bathroom and a bigger gush came out. called l & d and they told me to come in, still no contractions. was in labor for about 28 hours, had to end up getting drugs to get my cervix going and then pitocin.

So, retrospectively, we think mine was leaking a little all day. I wore a panty liner and it was just a little dischargy and I thought my MP was starting to come out in pieces or something.

It "broke broke" when I was sitting on the couch, I thought I was starting to pee myself. It was about 1/2-1 cup. Didn't gush till much later when contractions started.

If you're worried- I'd say wear a pad- that might save you unless you have an epic hollywood gush.

Mine broke with DD when I got up to use the restroom during the middle of the night.

A friend of mine (pregnant with her first) had hers break in a huge gush during another friend's baby shower. Soaking her pants, chair, shoes, everything.

Mine broke when I got up in the morning to pee--it was a huge gush and soaked a towel and a terry cloth bathrobe. 2 hours later on the way to the hospital I had another huge gush that soaked all of my clothes, the car seat, etc.--I stood up to walk into the hospital and had it running down my legs into my flip-flops.

Mine broke at work, big gush, soaked everything before any contractions. I would just suggest keeping a jacket or something close by if your worried.

Mine did. I was 90% effaced and 1/2 cm dilated two days before and still had that same lack of progress when I got the doctor. No contractions at all either.

It wasn't a gush, I just thought it was increased watery discharge that wouldn't stop. A constant trickle for a couple of hours, but not like when you pee. Just filled up a pantyliner about every hour to hour and a half.
