Hi ladies! It's been forevers since I've lurked and I can't believe how cute all the kiddies are. Congrats to all the mommies and their cuties!
I've been trying to be a good worker bee and told myself no procrastinating with thebump/nest/knot.
Anyways, I'm back now because....I have a peanut! Well I guess more of a blueberry at this point . I had my first appt on monday at 8 weeks to confirm that I indeed had a blueberry since I've been extremely lucky not to have any morning sickness or any other weird symptoms. Just some boobie aches. The doc measured the blueberry to be about 6 1/2 weeks along.
I tried to resist posting since I wanted to wait till the end of the 1st trimester but I cant. Why? Because I have a lot of dumb questions that I need answers to. Hehe.
First question- When did you start feeling fat/gaining weight? This whole week I've been feeling like my tummy is bigger and my pants are tighter. I'm hoping its just bloat cause I really don't want to tell the world until after the 1st trimester.
Second question- So if the baby is 6 weeks instead of 8 weeks...do I change the est due date (Dec 29, 2011)? I know the apps I used based it on the first day of the last period. I'm sooo confused (blush).
Ok 2 questions for now...I'll have more. But you girls have been helpful since the knottie days so I feel good telling you all.
Oh, and you know the drill about if you're a facebook friend...keep it on the down low.
Yay I'm officially a bumpie! If that's the term. Haha.
Re: i'm back...
Welcome back and CONGRATS!! How exciting!!
Heh, I remember at 8w I didn't have any m/s either and I considered myself lucky...then it hit me super hard suddenly at 10w...so hopefully you get through it without anything!! If you're past the 1st tri, then you're probably safe!
I think I started eating ravenously even before I POAS. So I probably started gaining weight then...but my experience is skewed because then I lost 10-15lbs due to hyperemesis. So I'm probably of no help with this question...
With the date, if you know your first day of the last period, then you're supposed to calculate it from there. For me, I had no idea when my last period was when I got pg, so then my dr just estimated my due date based on how the baby measured at ~8w--LO pretty much came on time so I assume that was pretty accurate...but if you know when your last period was, then I think that's the golden standard.
But anyway, I'm excited for you!!! Congrats again!
congrats! that is so exciting.
to answer your questions, I don't remember when I really gained weight, but I did feel pretty bloated right away whereas I had been on a loosing weight streak. So I would immediately change into yoga pants when I got home from work. I started wearing maternity pants pretty early, like right around 12 weeks? I had been in Seattle shopping anyways and picked some up and figured why not get the most use out of them?? haha. kind of miss not having buttons on my pants...
2. An EDD is based upon last period is just an estimate - which presumes that you ovulated on day 14 of a perfect 28 day cycle. Not all women and cycles are like that, so if you don't know your ovulated date the next most accurate way would be by early sonogram. So your doc's estimate based upon measurement just tells you that you actually ovulated about 2 weeks after the "normal" 14th day of the cycle. Don't get too hung up on the EDD, just like cycles can be different an actual birth date is considered normal if it's +/- 2 weeks of the average 40 week gestational period.
happy and healthy +/- 9 months!!
welcome and congrats!
Depends on a lot of things. I was a little, um, bigger than I wanted to be, so the doc only wanted me to gain 15-20 lbs total. I remember not really needing to get out of regular pants until the second tri, but there is a lot of bloat along the way. I don't know why I wanted to put it off so badly, but I did. And now I miss those pants without buttons/zippers too!!!
When the sono measured different from my calculations, I just asked the doc what my updated due date was, basically b/c it's their call what to do after that date, so I wanted to know what date THEY thought it was.
Congrats!
My doctor insisted on my EDD being based on my last period date, even though I knew when I ovulated due to charting and OPKs. I think most doctors will go on LMP, but check with them next time you go in.
And yes, I bloated right away, but didn't actually start to show until maybe 15 weeks. You might stay bloated for a while, or might not. Either way, you probably will be able to go the first tri and keep it secret.
Have a H&H 9 months!
Welcome back and congrats! I am just behind you, with Baby#2! How exciting! So you're having a New Year's Baby? My EDD is 01.17.11.
You've gotten good feedback already, just wanted to say that I bloated the first time around early on and again this time. At least the first time, it went back down around 8 weeks and I didn't weat maternity pants until 15-16 weeks or so. But I had lost weight just before TTC so my "regular" clothes were fitting again in the first tri.
I would also (and now am) come home and change into yoga pants and a tee or knit gauchos and a tank...SO comfy!
Like you, I am only "out" here and not on FB! It's SO nice to have some people to chat with about these things!

welcome back and congrats!!!
the bloat can start immediately but how soon you show can vary... i think most women don't show until they start heading into the 2nd tri so i wouldn't be too worried. you can always wear long/loose tops to hide it too
gestation is 40 weeks so if the baby is estimated at 6.5 wks then just calculate out 33.5 weeks and that is your EDD
that u/s measurement is usually more accurate than just going based off your LMP since most women don't ovulate right on day 14.

Thanks ladies!
Be prepared for a lot of silly questions from me
Such as....is my mouth feeling dry a pregnancy thing? I swear I drink like 20 cups a day and it still dry. Hehe.
Congratulations!!!
How soon you bloat can depend on how much of a tendency you have to retain water - I retain it REALLY badly (like to the point where my wedding rings can get painful just during a period) so I bloated up right away. And it was pretty obvious I was pregnant by the time I hit 13 weeks, but then I had two of 'em in there...
I had remarkably few symptoms until almost the second tri - I didn't even have morning sickness until 11 weeks! I did have problems with my mouth tasting icky - not dry like yours, just like my spit tasted bad - and was quite thirsty. Just listen to your body and follow what it wants.
Yeah, this is what my doctor told me - I was drinking water pretty nonstop and wondered if it was weird, and that was her explanation.
