NBR: Your Neighbors WWYD?

Our new house - upon further inspection the fence is rotten and needs replacing.

We have three backyard neighbors, one who is very nice and probably easily would half the cost for a new fence.

One not so gret (the one with crazy kids ) that MIGHT half the cost, if they aren't pissed at us.

And another that seem nice but there house and backyard look like they are falling apart and they might not have the cash to invest. (They are the ones with big dogs that seem to be tearing down the majority of the fence)

HOW would you go about asking them to help pay for a fence?  Should I get an estimte FIRST?  Or tell them of our intentions....

    First you need to figure out whose property the fence is on. There probably should have been a survey when you bought the house. If it's on your property then get an estimate and go to each neighbor and let them know you are replacing the fence. They might just jump in and offer. You could say "this fence we share is rotten. Do you think we should go in on replacing it?". That is of course if it's on their property or right on the line. I would be prepared to pay for it all though and just consider any contribution a bonus.

     This, and if the fence is not on your property, you might want to consider building a fence inside of the rotten so the neighbors dog won't ruin your new fence.
