May 2011 Moms

Nathan's Birth Story

I was due May 8th and got induced May 12th.  We checked into L&D around 7:30pm were I didnt' see the DR until 9:30pm. I was still only 1 cent dilated. He inserted the Foley took some ambien and me and DH were out for the count.

Friday morning at 7am my OB came in, broke my water, started the pitocin. My mom and mother in law were in the room with me the entire day with DH. Sometime in the afternoon I got the epidural although I can honsetly say at that point the contractions were to bad but better safe then sorry.

Around 3:45 Friday the 13th My OB comes in and says I'm about to start pushing. The nurse from my birth class was also with us.  Well being my first one I know what they said about "Push like you have to poop" but I think I was still so numb from the epidural that my Dh said he can tell when I was pushing and not.

So I will summarize in a nutshell. I pushed almost 3 hours.  I pushed regular position, on my left, on my side, swaying on the bed pushing (squatting towards the floor) in between I threw up on the nurse (how embarassing). Thye kept saying the head is almost there etc etc. About 5pm the DR came in and said he'll give me 1 more hour and i'm going for a C/S. They finally lowered the epi and THEN i started feeling the "urge" well after 2 vacumms and an episiotomy I had Nathan at 6:30pm on Friday the 13th.

I swear everything I learned in class that can happen during labor happend with me. But I'm glad I was able to have Nathan vaginally.

congrats!  it is so much easier to push when you can feel pressure.
