which hospital is best to give birth in-SW area of Las Vegas

I am trying to figure out which hospital is best to give birth in.  I live very close to Southern Hills, and St. Rose San Martin and Spring Valley are also pretty close.  I have not heard great things about Summerlin, so I've mostly been looking at the other three.  Any suggestions or recommendations?  According to my insurance estimates (I have Cigna) it seems like Spring Valley would likely be least expensive, then Southern Hills, and St Rose being most expensive.  I have been told to look for a hospital that has an anesthesiologist available 24 hours, but I haven't been able to figure out if any of these hospitals do.  Also, should I be looking at the option of a nursery because I know some hospitals only have the baby in the room with you unless there are problems.  This is my first baby-any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I looked at san Martin and southern hills and ultimately went with san martin. I had a good experience and would recommend it. The rooms are bigger than southern hills but neither of the two had a well baby nursery. I wanted this too since i was pretty sure i was having a csection with my twins and would have liked a good nights sleep after! I would recomend going on tours of each of yhe hospitals, you can ask your questions then. Good luck!

    I went to Spring Valley, They were great. It is a new clean facility. The staff there were amazing. They do have a well baby nursery. I had my baby in the room except for right after giving birth. After I held him for about an hour. I started feeling dizzy again. I didn't want to drop him. So I asked if they would take him to the nursery. At spring valley they take the baby once a day for checkups for about an hour anyway. I had a csection. my stay was very comfortable. Food not so good(but what hospital food is, lol) I met my Pedi there too. so im very thankful

    I actually work at Spring Valley Hospital. I've been there since the day the hospital opened. I know we take Cigna. The women's services staff are great, and we have a NICU as well...heaven forbid there are unforseen problems, as well as a well baby nursery. We have all private rooms and there is always an anesthesia doc available. You can even pre-register, so you don't have to deal with paperwork when you come in. The one thing I will say is to make sure your doctor has privlages at which ever hospital you end up choosing. Doctors don't just go to whatever hospital you pick, you need to be sure you choose one that they go to. In my experiences it seems most OB docs go to 2 or 3 hospitals. Check with your doc.     I too have Cigna and ultimately decided on Spring Valley Hospital due to hearing great reviews and my doctor has priveleges there. I've also heard that their nursing staff was great, the hospital was fairly calm/peaceful compared to most, and it is very clean. I'm not sure when you're due, but if I am due earlier, I'll definitely give you my review.

    I delivered my daughter at Spring Valley in 2010. Overall, I was happy with my experience. I really wanted a med free birth and do not feel that I was pressured in any way to change my views (Ive heard of many women having a difficult time getting support for a med free birth in a hospital).  They were very nice and supportive to help me deliver without any meds. I only wish there was more lactation support. However, I delivered on a holiday weekend so they were very busy and overwhelmed with babies.

    Hi LV ladies.  I am due in January.  I also am under hubbys insurance with Cigna. I think it is the 85/15 plan for now..not sure what it will be after the first of the year.

     I am new to all of this so do not know how it works..

    So some hospitals are less expensive? I want to do Spring Valley too then.  I live on WEst trop so that is a good location.  Do I just tell this to my doctor?

    courtney, yes, ask your doctor. not all docs can deliver at all hospitals. they must have privlages at spring valley to deliver there. so be sure your doc has privlages there. i work at spring valley...and i know we take cigna insurance.

    I had a C-section at Southern Hills in 2008 and had a great experience.  My dr. has privledges at all 3 of the hospitals you mentioned and those are the 3 closest to me as well.  My dr. said that he felt the best about Southern Hills with the way it was run and the care, so we went there.  Like I said, very good experience.  I am pregnant again and will likely go there, or if not then St. Rose, but I'll ask my OB again what his opinion is.  ;)

    Spring Valley is awesome. I worked there when I first moved to LV and if it were closer to my house, it would be one of my first choices of where to deliver.
