Multiples

Does anyone here cloth diaper?

I was wondering if I'm getting in over my head wanting to cloth diaper the twins.  I was fully planning on CD a singleton and since we have two DH thinks it's going to be too much work.

Anyone done it and had success?  Anyone tried and decided against it?

  • I don't cloth diaper, you may get a better response on the CD board, but I would think that it's just anything else with multiples, it's not hard, just more :) like, washing their clothes, not hard, but there are just more to do. Or bottles, not hard cleaning them, just more of them to do. Stuff like that.

  • We cloth diaper and we love it.  The few times we've used disposables we've hated them.  Once you get into a routine, it really isn't that bad.  The key is to have a large stash so that you only have to wash a few times a week.  Feel free to page me if you have specific questions!

  • I attempted to cd because I was hoping to save some money.  In the end I realized that I really was not saving that much and decided that it would be too much work.

  • I CD my boys (execpt for at night, still haven't figured out how to keep these power peers dry then) and we love it. We have 24 BG AIOs and I wash a load every other day. Easier than remembering to buy the disposables at the store for me!

  • I have 3 in cloth right now (only 3 wks in). I have to do a ton of laundry regardless,  so an extra load of diapers a day does not bother me. The upfront cost is high but we are changing diapers so often that I am sure we are already saving money.

I have a super soaker too (my 22 month old)

Kawaii overnight with a microfiber insert and 2 hemp inserts. I tried everything and this works every night!

  • Thanks!!  I was going to try the CD board too, but didn't know how many of them had multiples.  It's good to hear some success stories.

  • I CD my 3 in diapers and I save a ton of money vs. disposables. When you look into cloth diapers it can be overwhelming because there are so many different kinds. For me, I just went to a few of the CD store websites and read through all their FAQs and it helped me decide which route to go. The CD board on here is a great resource too.

www.jilliansdrawers.com www.cottonbabies.com www.kellyscloset.com are some of the CD stores you can check out.

For us we started CDing when my toddler was 1 and we started him with Flip covers and microfiber inserts and moved onto one size pockets which worked better for us.

For the twins we used indian pre-folds and Thirsties covers and it was awesome. The Thirsties duo wrap size 1 fit our twins immediately and they were 5#6 and 6# at birth.

Now all 3 of the boys are in one size pockets. I use bumGenius, Kawaii, and Gogreen pockets. The bumGenius are about $18 new, Kawaiis are as low as $6.95, and the Gogreen are $8.99.

We've spend about $700 on CDs and we're good until potty training. I also use cloth wipes which I just made out of some flannel.

I'm in the same boat as you - I'd planned on doing it until we found out we were having twins and DH freaked.  I'm still trying to talk him into it though.  I sent him this blog post by a mom of tripplets (who posts on this board sometimes! Hi Jenny!) to appeal to his cheap side, hehehe!!

Yep! We started around 9 months old and I have been loving it! It's really not that much more work and we were always having poo-splosions in disposables. With cloth, we have had zero blowouts.

I have a collection of FuzziBunz, gDiapers, Kawaii, and Alvas. To be honest, I like my cheap-o minky Alvas the best and are my go to diaper. Plus, they come in all kinds of cute patterns and prints. But you will have to see what works best for you and your children. Some people love one brand, while others hate it.

I second the PP's advice about going to the cloth diaper board and looking at the FAQs. They helped me out a bunch and it was nice looking at all of the cloth diaper websites.

    Good luck!

  • I CD my girls and part time CD DS (almost 3) The key for me is streamlined. When DS was born we had mostly prefolds and covers. When I had the girls... prefolds were too much work to me. W/ Twins you change a LOT of diapers LOL My current stash is AIO's and pockets for DS, pockets for the girls, and some pf's and covers incase I run low before I get the wash done because DD2 is in mediums and DD1 is in smalls. I'm still purchasing my medium stash.

  • It is definitely possible to cloth diapers twins! Once you get in a routine with them, it's not hard at all.

I have a stash of about 40 diapers including, kawaii's, BG 3.0's, BG 4.0's, fuzzibunz, flips, happy heinys, and a couple other kinds also and I wash about every other day. I think I have enough to go another day without washing, but I don't like to let them sit too long in the diaper pail.

  • I do about 50/50 CD/disposable right now. We are using up what's left of our disposable stash and then planning to CD about 90% of the time. We use Softbums AI2's (they are a MN co. And I lile to support local business when possible). Considering we can go through 20 diapers in a day sometimes, it definitely saves $$$. I have only hesitated to CD when we are out of the house on trips or running errands. We focus mostly on CD-ing at home, but I slowly getting my courage to leave the house with my CDs. :)
