Stay at Home Moms

My husband got laid off today.

I am in shock.  He was laid off from a different job in April 2009 and was lucky enough to find this job right away and was working within a month.  His 2 year anniversary at this company was yesterday and he was let go today.  He and I both suspected that it was coming (they've had an unbelieveable amount of people give their notice in the last few months), but neither of us thought it would be this soon.  He thought he had another 6 months.  His manager is the only person left in his department and she was put on probation.  It's absurd.

He got 2 weeks' severance and was paid for the 7 vacation days that he had.  I know he'll get unemployment until he finds something else, but it's not enough.  It's a blessing in disguise because the company is just a hot mess right now, but I'm scared.  We have a child graduating from HS next month and going off to college in August, a mortgage, etc., etc.

Any good wishes/vibes/prayers/whatever would be most appreciated.

  • I'm sorry. :( If you need someone to vent to, you can PM me.  Over the course of the past two years, we've experienced five major layoffs, including two company closures.   Finally, last month, my husband secured a (hopefully) stable job in an entirely different industry.  I hope that your husband is able to secure something soon.  I'm sending good thoughts your way.
  • Thanks ladies!

He's in IT.  Data analyst/programmer, to be specific.

And I was wrong about the severance.  Sean misunderstood what they said.  He only got one week of severance (not two).  Jerks.

Stacy, I'll send you an email now.

  • Girl I feel your pain, we are in the same boat. Casey got no notice, and it came out of the blue they had been super busy but once the project was finished they let him go. I am 28 weeks pregnant and having to switch to Medicaid and all that jazz. So best of luck, also congrats on the grad.

  • So sorry to hear that:(( My DH was laid off Dec. 12, last year, right before Christmas with 2 weeks pay and insurance til the end of the year. (and I had 3-month old baby and he has 2 kids from prev.marriage to pay for), and my mom was over from Russia for 3 month visiting us. Very stressful.  It was also 3rd time in last 3 years...( He was lucky to find a job 3,5 month later, and it was the only interview  he was called to. I will pray for you! Think that he'll find a better job with better pay!!!(and he will!)
