Hey ladies,
I am seeking some help and have no idea where else to turn to.
Hubby and I have been trying for quit some time now without success. So we got involved with Reproductive Associates of Delaware and got all the necessary test done for him and myself. They didn't really find much wrong with my and hubby's sperm count was a little low but nothing to alarming.
So we did our first IUI 2 weeks ago and low and behold, it did not work I know everyone will say to try again with the IUI, but since my insurance does not cover it and we are paying out of pocket, we can't really ditch out another $1800 right now.
So I guess what I am asking is: Is there another Dr I could see that is not as expensive? Is there any other route to go besides IVF now?
Thanks for any help/responses.
Kristy
Re: Help with Pregnancy
Hi,
I know my cousin saw Dr. Russell, but he is probably the same as RAD. I have been going to RAD since last July. We had testing, surgery, blah, blah, blah. Dr. McGuirk to DH after surgery that she expected me to be pregnant in 3-4 months since she fixed all of the problems that she could see. (Endo, cysts, etc) Needless to say, I have in the 2 ww for my 5th natural cycle. We met with her 2 weeks ago and she said that she thinks the problem might be the egg is not being pulled into the tube. She recommended going to IVF. Luckily for us, we do have IF coverage, but insurance required us to have 2-3 IUI's first.
I THINK...Dr. McGuirk said IUI only gives you 3% higher chance of being pregnant. That sucks!!!

Thanks ladies for the encouragement!
I know the chances of an IUI are less then trying naturally but I wanted to give it a shot before we jumped right into IVF. I do know IVF is way more expensive, but I don't see the point in wasting all that money on IUI when I don't think they are going to work.
Hubby and I have been trying on our own for at least 2 years, so I don't think an IUI is going to work either. I made an appt with Dr. McGuirk for this coming monday to see what else she says we can do.
KLM- You are so lucky that your insurance covers it. I wish mine did, then it wouldn't be a problem for us.
Dr. McGuirk thought she saw a mild case of Endo so she did laparoscopy surgery on me. Where it turned out that I did not have Endo but my tubes were sagging a little. She fixed that and also cut away a lot of my scar tissue that I had from previous surgeries.
Ever since I had my first IUI, I have been reading and learning some info that I did not know. Dr. McGuirk told me that I would not be able to exercise during the 2ww but I didn't understand why. After reading up on how excessive core temperature could possible kill the sperm in me, we have decided to try again naturally until we can do IVF. I am an avid exerciser (work out monday-friday at least an hour and a half a day) and realized that may be my problem. Since I am due to ovulate next week, I went out and bought Pre-seed and I am going to lay off the exercising for the 3 weeks following my period (the first week is the fertile time and then the 2ww).
I am going to hope that it will work
I am sorry you are going through all of this. Fingers crossed that it works for you on your own. I am heading into my 2nd week of the 2ww. Waiting is the worst part.
We have been tring since January 2009. I was pregnant within 3 months then had a missed miscarriagea month later. I should of been 9w 3d, but he was only measuring 7w5d. Dr. McGuirk thought that pregnancy was luck. My DH was not sure about doing IVF until we talked to Dr. McGuirk . So at least that pressure is off. He was actually surprised that I wanted to finish out our natural cycles before moving to IUI.
PS~Thanks for the info about excercising. I was thinking about joining the YMCA, but instead, I am just going to do the wii fit every night and then we are going to buy a machine for our house. I REALLY don't want to pay a monthly memebership fee if I can't go 2 weeks a month.
I live in Wilmington but went to a VERY good center in King Of Prussia, PA called RMA of Philadelphia.
Their IUI package is only $900/month.
I got knocked up the first month... Dr. Martin Freedman is THE BEST Dr. EVER! I love him.
Highly recommend even though it isn't convenient.
