c/s moms... let's talk

So I had an unplanned c-section after 18 hours of labor. I'm 6 days pp and still swollen beyond comprehension. I can't even look at my legs - they are puffier than ever. And my face, oh Lord don't get me started. Other than the swelling, I'm doing OK, my incision is fine, bowels are working great (although I'm quite gassy) and I'm walking pretty good.

What about you - how have you been recovering?

  • Are you taking that gas-x type med?  I didn't have a c/s, but I was super gassy, and the nurse gave me that gas-x (I am trying to remember the name - something ilke symethicon or something like that), and it was a god sent.

And also a bonus, when you take it, your farts smell like peppermint.  NO JOKE!!

  • hahaha at farts smelling like peppermint. I've been taking regular old gas-x, like over the counter. I feel like nothing is working for me... ahhhh

  • I was told the swelling would get worse before it got better... and it did.  It was a good 2 weeks before I was significantly "deflated".  And it could also take up to 6 weeks for it to completely go away.

I'm 13 days post c/s and my swelling is just now starting to get better.  I'm 100% more swollen than I was during pregnancy.  My cankles are scary!  My OB told me it's from the pitocin you get via IV after the c-section to get your uterus to contract back post surgery.

I'm down 20 lbs - woohoo (too bad I was a fat ass and have another 20 to go).

The only thing really bugging me is the numbness around my incision.  The OB said that would take months to get back to normal.

  • I am 5 days post c/s.  Luckily, I don't have any swelling or pain anymore.  My question is, when does your tummy skin start to tighten back up.  It's not about losing weight...more about the elasticity of the skin.
  • Mine is on Monday and I am not looking forward to recovery. I had a c/s in 2009 and I didn't have swelling but the extra gas lasted for months. My incision was also numb for months, but the feeling came back and the scar was SO minimal that my DH called it my "scratch". Don't worry, things will eventually go back to normal and tighten up. Just give yourself time to heal and don't push it. If you do too much too soon you can irritate your incision and it won't heal as pretty. I felt really great within a couple weeks, though I did have some lingering muscle pain on the left side of my incision for a month when I would try to sit up in bed. I read that it was totally normal for one side to hurt more depending on what side the doctor stood on.

  • Im 11 days post my c section. I'm not swollen (other than my belly) but I do have this pinching/burning pain at my incision if I move a certain way and mostly after I've been idle for a while. Does anyone else have this pain?

I am 8 days post section and my biggest complaint is the burning feeling near/around my scar.

  • My biggest complaint are the hives I developed on my legs and feet after having an allergic reaction to the percocet they pumped me full of for days post c section. It's incredibly uncomfortable and the itchiness makes me cry it's so bad! On another note, os anyone using a binder on your tummy? The hospital sent me home with one but I haven't been able to navigate it too comfortably with the incision.

I love my binder, but my incision doesn't hurt me too bad. I have to walk more than I'd like so I cant imagine not having the binder.

Side note: so jealous of those without swelling!
