Can you girls give me a primer on daycare in the area? The twins cannot go to my DD's center because it is too much money ($952/week for the 3 of them!! ). I need to start looking for home daycare in MoCo or in PG County, the Greenbelt area, where I work.
Also, I am a total daycare center girl. Can you give me some insight to why you love your home providers and generally how much I should look to pay?
Also, anyone use a nanny? DD is 4 and will stay at her center. Worth it for 2?
TIA!!!

For prices, you can look at the daycare spreadsheet:

Congrats on your twins! I always love talking to other MoMs (moms of multiples). We went with an in-home provider for a couple of reasons:
1. I went to a daycare center as a child and I HATED it. Granted, that was 30+ years ago, but I couldn't get past that. I know there are great centers out there, but I swear I still have PTSD from the center I went to.
2. Even with twins, a nanny or a center was expensive.
3. There weren't any centers convenient to our house.
4. We only needed part-time care b/c MIL takes them twice a week and it's tough to find centers with part time openings.
All that being said, we really like our DCP. When the babies are older, we might consider a center with more of a curriculum, although our DCP does do that stuff (and we'll defintely send them to a regular preschool). I'm in VA and her normal rate is $50/day for each child but we get a 10% sibling discount for each child, so we pay $45/day/baby. That would equal $450/week if we did full time.
Hey there! I sent you an email, since we've researched in-homes near your center. GL!
knock me over w/ a feather over almost $50K/yr in daycare! ($47,600 to be exact)
I was thinking the same thing. We pay about $34,000 a year with three kids in daycare/preschool. That's two kids in in-home daycare and one kid in a Montessori preschool.
Thanks for the replies! I can't believe I am back to the daycare drawing board. Sometimes our area just doesn't make sense to me. You can't financially afford to have more than one child and work!!!!
I looked at a center in Greenbelt yesterday and it was very nice and almost affordable ($256/week/child), but small. They only take 6 infants and I would need a third of their spaces!!!!
Trying to be zen about the process. It will all work out and at least I have time on my side!!!
Thanks again!
