April 2011 Moms

So I bought a bikini.

How's that for a little bit of motivation? Honestly, I wasn't overweight before getting pregnant and I have already lost 26 of the 30 pounds that I gained, but everything just looks different.

Here are some of the measures I have started to get my body back:

I bought Reebok tone-up walking shoes because my butt DISAPPEARED during pregnancy.  I liked having a little bit of a tush back there but now it's as flat as an ironing board.

I am quickly gaining points on my Wii Fit by doing the advanced step course and extreme hula hoop....

I have been taking walks with the stroller and even though its like 92 degrees out, it is very pretty outside (and I could use some sun...)

I hope to be at my in-laws pool by Friday in this bikini looking not-so-horrifying. I wish I could work out big time though, but I am not even 3 weeks pp.  Do you think I could go to the gym and hit up the stairmaster?? I FEEL GREAT!!

Sorry to ramble, I had all these random thoughts in my head, lol.

How about you ladies?

Re: So I bought a bikini.

  • Good for you, lady! Sadly, I was just online shopping for a bathing suit with as much coverage as possible. How do you like those Reebok easy tones? I need a new pair of work out shoes, and was looking at those.

  • I'm ten days postpartum, and have lost most of the weight, but as you said, everything is proportioned differently.  I'll almost definitely need a couple of new sports bras, and I'll be shopping for new running shoes now that my feet have lost the water weight (they were seriously gross-looking just a few days ago).  And does anyone make athletic corsets?  'Cause my belly is seriously jiggly!  Wink  Buying new workout gear is usually a good motivator for me to get my butt out the door for runs.

As excited as I am to start working out again, I am making myself wait 'til my two-week PP checkup on Tuesday before I even go for a long walk.  I'm doing a 5K next month, so I need to start working out at least a little, but I want to get the go-ahead from the doc first.

Good luck with your bikini!  Maybe a little of that tanning lotion would boost your confidence, too?

  • I am impressed!  You should call your OB's office and tell them you feel great and see if they'll clear you to work out early.  I don't know if this is true or not, but a few people have told me that if you work your abs too soon after giving birth you can actually do more damage to them because they haven't had enough time to come back together...?  That could be false.  I don't know.  But I think it's worth a call.  I'm hoping to get into a bikini by the end of July when we're going on vacay... I plan on getting back into the gym as soon as my damn car is fixed!
  • Like you, I lost almost all the weight right away, but it took a bit longer for my stomach to really get back anywhere close to where it was before.  I've been doing a TON of ab work, and now, 4 months post-partum, it's almost there.  And I'm only up about 2 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight.  You'll get there soon, I promise!

My OB cleared me to start working out at 2 weeks pp, so maybe yours will too!

So far I am liking the shoes and they are so much better looking than the Skechers Shape-Ups.  I did alot of walking yesterday and it feels as though muscles were used that haven't been used in a while.  I bought them at Kohl's for 69.99 (on sale from reg. price of 84.99).  Not the cheapest shoes, but I am hopeful!

Good idea.  I didn't think that I could do damage until you said that.  Definitely worth a call to the OB.  I am so anxious to get back to normal!
