Hi everyone-
I have been reading this board for the past week and I felt like I should finally jump in and post. I know a lot of people who have babies, but not who have preemies. We are a very small club. Like many of you, I am a former July 2011 club member...never a poster, mostly a lurker.
My son was born last week at 30w and 5days weighing 3lbs 4oz. Thankfully, he is doing very well. He was breathing room air from the start and now on full feeds (no IV) and they are trying to cycle him off the CPAP. (he was off for 15 hours yesterday but had a big Brady at 4am so he is back on for now) The doctors and nurses assure me that he will be fine and just needs to grow.
I had a perfect pregnancy up until last week, and without no explanation I went into PTL. Everything happened so fast (had a vaginal birth) and it was definitely scary. It took me a a full day or two to really process everything. My emotions are still going crazy. I can't help but feel guilty that my body couldn't keep him inside longer.
My husband and I go see him about 3-4 times per day . We live in a big city so we can walk to the hospital as its only 7 blocks away from our apt building. In between visiting, I have been pumping like crazy and trying to get some sleep.
Its nice to hear all of your stories and experiences. I wish you all the best of luck and good health for you and your babies![]()
Re: Hello from new May preemie mom (former July 2011)
Welcome! Like you, I had a completely uneventful pregnancy, right up until my son was born at 26w3d.
I'm glad to hear your son is doing well! Guilt is totally normal, which I'm sure you know. This wasn't your fault, and your son will be home with you very soon.
Congratulations!
Congratulations on your baby boy!
I am a May preemie mom (former July 2010). Our baby was in the NICU/ISCU for 35 days. The total cost billed to our insurance was $196,000.00. They adjusted it to $63,000.00. And then our insurance took care of most of it. I am really glad that I applied for K01 Medicaid after baby was in in the hospital for over 30 days. This secondary insurance took care of extra bills that our primary insurance did not take care of--it is so crazy what they bill you for--I mean I just felt like I just wanted the best care for my son. I found out about the K01 Medicaid from the social workers at the hospital. And the social workers are good to just talk to about how you are feeling in general.
Oh and have fun shopping for baby boy clothes! After my son was born, I got some Gerber onsies which run small as a gift. And we went shopping for newborn clothes--he looked like Puff daddy in them, but he eventually grew in to the newborn clothes by month of July when he was in between 6 to 9 lbs.
Congratulations on your son - it sounds like he is doing great! I think many of us can relate to how he arrived. I always say "I had a perfect pregnancy right up to the day that it wasn't, and DS decided to arrive."
I hope your NICU stay is uneventful and your son continues to do well!
Hey Piper!
There are several July moms on here. I can totally relate to the super fast change of plans. I hope your LO continues to do awesome and that you find a lot of support here.

We'll miss you sweet Debbie Girl (4.21.12) and sweet Cindy Girl (8.9.12)

Congratulations on your early arrival! I hope your NICU stay is short and uneventful
I've not been on here for 2 weeks or so - but wow a lot of July '11 moms have joined! I'm a former July '11 mom also so welcome!
Welcome!!!
I was also on July 2011 and turned into a May mommy.
Continued T+Ps that you little guy continues to grow and thrive! I love the fact that he's off IV feedings!!
BFP #3 via cancelled IUI ~ C (2lb 3oz; HELLP) 5/16/11
BFP #4 via the natural (free!) way ~ E (8lb 11oz) 9/13/12
Thanks everyone! Again, I wish all the best for you and your LO's
He is back on CPAP for now after two big bradies last night and he threw up for the first time
He also didn't gain (or lose) any weight yesterday...
I feel like everytime I'm feeling great about his progress we have a little setback. I guess this is why they tell us "2 steps forward, one step back".....
