I know someone posted about leg cramps at night. A lot of people recommended bananas, potatoes, and starchy foods. I have GD and I have to watch my carbs. Anyone know of any low carb solutions to leg cramps? I stretch my legs already, and do what I can, but I was wondering if there's any other food solutions.
Re: s/o Leg Cramps and GD
Possibly watching your sodium intake. Years ago I was told I had a high amount of potassium in my body when having blood work done, at the same time it was also discovered that my sodium was low. The doctor explained to me that your sodium intake counteracts with the potassium in your body and because my sodium was low, my potassium was high. I am not an MD so I do not know the specifics of how this works, but I would assume it has the same effect going the other way. If you are in taking too much sodium, it could be counteracting with the potassium in your body possibly causing more cramps? Like I said, not a doctor, just a thought.
I don't know what other foods are high in potassium, but just google that because that is why people are suggesting bananas and potatoes.
Also .. stretching is great, try to get in some all throughout the day, and especially right before bed.
Finally - WATER! Hydrate like a crazy person. hehe

Don't really have a lot of advice, I've gotten a few too, but they seem to slowing down. I would say make sure you drink LOTS of water and stretch, like you've been doing.
Also, when I used to get leg cramps before I'd just lay there screaming! Now as soon as I feel it coming on I get right up and walk around briskly and they seem to go away faster.
My OB said I could eat all the bananas I wanted, but I'm getting them most likely because of dehydration. I drink A LOT of water, but she said I need even more if I want them to go away.
She also suggested eating the bananas in the evening if I want the potassium to help much.
::sigh:: good luck, they suck!
This. I am going through this myself...and nothing else helps more than the above stated...GL!
