Re: Questions from new mommies!

  • Thanks PhoxySteph!

I'm sure all of my questions could fit a book.....:) Here are a few that come to mind:

What was the most difficult thing for you (physically, emotionally) about being pregnant?

Up to what week were you able to drive/work?

For those of you with pets, how and when did you introduce them? I have a very affectionate kitty that demands my attention a lot, so I wonder how she will react.

I think this is a fun idea to keep doing. Maybe you could post a thread every week or every other week? I'm sure there will be even more questions as time goes on!

I'm sure all of my questions could fit a book.....:) Here are a few that come to mind:

What was the most difficult thing for you (physically, emotionally) about being pregnant? Physically, towards the end, it was hard to sleep - finding a comfortable position, getting up frequently to pee, etc. I will add that overall my pregnancy and labor and delivery were really easy, and I think a big part of that was I walked pretty much every single day. I definitely recommend doing that or something similar as long as it's ok with your doc. There wasn't really anything hard emotionally during pregnancy (there are the usual worries about everything being ok), but I will say that the 10 days or so after DS was born were tough. It's that "baby blues" period - you're sleep deprived and emotional, very happy to have your baby, but it can be really hard, too.

Up to what week were you able to drive/work? I never wasn't able to. I had planned for my last day of work before maternity leave to be the day I was 39 weeks (the following week was Christmas anyway), but DS had other plans and was born at 38 weeks 3 days. I was able to drive and work up to that point, though. As long as you're not on bedrest or something, I believe there shouldn't be any reason you can't work/drive right up until you deliver.

For those of you with pets, how and when did you introduce them? I have a very affectionate kitty that demands my attention a lot, so I wonder how she will react. We have a dog, and we just walked in the day we came home. I did have DH carry DS in so I could greet her right away (she was my dog before we got married, so she's super close to me). We put DS's carseat on the floor and let her sniff him - she was super scared/nervous and was shaking. It's like she knew this little person was a really big deal. Right before we left for the hospital to deliver him, I picked her up and gave her some special attention since the next time she saw me would be with the baby. Now she and DS are buddies!
