I just got the news that I have been laid off (possibly temporarily) from my job as a group home counselor. I've never really been a "Stay at home mom". After my son was born I was in school on campus full time, out of the house, etc. I had been at my former position almost 3 years. I'm kind of excited to see how this will fit for me. I've always worked by choice so the pay cut, while it will have some effects, won't be drastic. DH and I have chosen for me not to find another position.
So... I guess I should introduce myself. I'm Tara. I'm 24, have two beautiful children Maggie who just turned 1 and Will who will be 4 at the end of this month. My husband has been a WFHD since we had our son so we will both be at home now. YIKES. My hobbies include gardening and running. I finished my first 5k last week. I'm excited to now be able to do a few more races over the summer now that I have the time to do them and not worry about my work schedule.
What kind of things do you guys like to do over the summer with your kiddos?
Re: New to the SAH thing
Welcome! I am Emily. I have 3 kids - Alex is 5 and finishing preschool next week. Taylor is 3 and Dylan just turned 1. I did my first 2 5k races last summer and one the end of April this year. I am planning a race (haven't decided 5 or 10k yet) on 6/11.
I would strongly recomeend checking out a "Mom" group. www.momsclub.org has links the the chapters around the country. www.mops.org also has info you can find in your area. I personally could not live w/o activites to keep us busy. Finding Mom friends you can sit & talk with as the kids play together is my saving grace. Also, call the local library to see their storytimes - this is a great place to start.
Hi Tara, I recognize you from the WM board
We are in the exact same position, how funny! I was let go from my job 2 weeks ago and am going to try the SAH thing and see how I like it. So we are in the same boat!
Congrats on your 5K!
Welcome!
I LOVE the name Will!
Awesome I'll check those websites out, thank you! I know the library has story time on Fridays. I think I'm going to check it out tommorow with DD. DS will be in preschool until the end of this month so I can kind of ease into it.
Thank you.
Funny that we are in the same position! I guess it's not surprising with the economy and all
Thank you! It was my FIL's name. We found out we were pregnant with DS the day after we burried my FIL. It seemed fitting.
