Stripping of the membranes does not guarantee you will go into labor.
This is true. I had my membranes stripped and did not go into active labor on my own like the Dr had hoped. I've also heard of people going into labor after it too.
The membranes are stripped to hopefully start the labor. I had mine stripped in the morning and 12 hrs later my water broke. Coincidence, maybe? Or it might have worked. But it does not make it faster and more intense. That is called pitocen.
It just supposed to start labor sooner (hopefully). I had mine stripped yesterday and nothings happened yet. It doesn't guarentee labor by any means and will only work if LO and your body are ready.

It's hit or miss.
