So I've always thought the 3D/4D u/s are kinda creepy looking, especially when it's early (like pre-19w). Am I horrible for thinking this?
DH wants to do an elective 4D gender u/s in early June - it's only a $25 difference from the 2D u/s and it includes a live recording on a DVD that I thought might be neat for our OOT parents, but I'm hesitant...
Re: What are your thoughts on 4D u/s?
At mine yesterday they switched back and fourth. I agree that in some of the pics it looks weird, but even the normal 2D ones looked weird when you could see the skull and eye sockets and the skeleton.I put the pic in my siggy up on FB and my BFF's reaction was "I'm really happy for you and all, but, that pic is kinda creepy." I just had to laugh. I guess if I wasn't so in love with the fact that it is my baby I would think it was creepy.
It was really amazing to see it moving around with such clarity though, you could get a way better picture than the grainy black and white. If my doctor hadn't done it I would have considered an elective.
I knew I read this somewhere on here. This is the info the bump gives for the 22- 24 week fruit and it mentions the face.
Your Baby: Month 5Watch what you say -- baby is now able to hear outside noise from down in the womb. Studies show that baby finds gentle music and your own voice most soothing. Nipples are starting to sprout, and that little face is fully formed. And, baby's starting to settle into sleep cycles, snoozing about 12 to 14 hours a day. It shouldn't be hard to figure out when -- just pay attention to those kicks as they start and stop

I think they're weird, but to each their own. I also asked my doc about them and he said that the resolution is majorly sacrificed to go into 3D or 4D. So, if you want a more detailed picture, you're actually better off with a regular u/s.
Depending on their machine (mine since the first tri have all been Level II u/s, so that may make a difference), they can flip the view into the blood flow one. I don't know the proper name for it, but it shows the movement of blood and is how they check to make sure the placenta and cord are working properly. It has colors and can give you an interesting detail shot. There's also another mode that gives you colors, including coloring the baby's face. My LO really looked like an alien in that one. It was pretty fascinating actually. I don't know that they can print pictures in the colors though.
I think all of them are creepy. I am sure I would like it if it was my kid though. No interest in getting one -- I get so many u/s that I actually wish I had fewer. Plus, they are expensive.
I've never even asked them to turn 3/4-D on, even though the machine does it, and I've had probably 25 u/s so far.
