Lovenox...bruising getting worse and some discomfort?

At the beginning of using it almost a month ago, I probably got a little bruise about half the time and thought I was getting better at avoiding bruises.  Now it seems like I'm getting a bruise every time.  Yesterday's was especially bad, but maybe about the size of a nickel or quarter.  I've also noticed that the injection sites have been somewhat sore, mostly to the touch and sometimes I feel them when I bend over.  I'm just wondering how typical this is.  I use ice before and after the injection.  Is there anything else I should be doing?  I think I have one more week before I need to get tested again to make sure the dosage is correct.

Re: Lovenox...bruising getting worse and some discomfort?

  • I would try diferent locations. For me, ice/pinching/no pinching/inhect slowly/fast/etc didn't make any difference for the bruising. Rather, the only factor in whether I bruised or not was where I injected. The farther down on the belly I went, the more chance there was of getting bruised.

Try all different locations...sides of the belly, high up, low down, etc.

GL! The bruises suck big time!

i inject in different areas. I find if I keep on injecting in the same area, I will bruise more and it will be sensitive to the touch after. My favorite spot to inject are my love handles. Find it the easiest and least painful. As well, you can inject into the lower sides of your thighs. That area isn't bad.

As you start to get bigger, your DH will have to help you. You will not be able to reach over your belly. DH would have to inject on my left side because I couldn't reach over with my right arm to inject. Make sure he starts watching how you inject soon.

The more your body gets used to the Lovenox and it is going through your system, the more you will bruise anywhere. I get bruises from slightly bumping into chairs or anything. Be careful. That is also part of the reason for the bruising now.

  • A couple of weeks ago I noticed that I was bruising often too. I was doing the shots along the same line as my belly button and I kept hitting capillaries. I was seeing some pretty nasty bleeds under my skin. It seemed to happen when I injected lower on my stomach. Now that I've started going higher and further out on my sides the bruising has gotten better. It's impossible for me to tell where I'm going to run into trouble and bruise, it's just luck of the shot. I also ice and pinch, but this doesn't make a difference. When I hit a capillary, or just a sensitive spot, I will bruise, no matter what I do to avoid it. Like you, I've noticed that the injection sites are sore and last night when I bent over to pick something up I felt a tenderness at the sites of the last few shots. Guessing this is just normal injection site irritation.

Good luck! I really hope the bruising gets better for you.

  • I find the higher I do my injections, the more likely I am to bruise, which is the opposite of what someone else said...so I'm guessing we are just all different.  The longer I use it, the more I have discomfort with it, like I can feel it under the skin.  Maybe you do need to just move around to a different site. Good luck!

This.  I'm on heparin and find that some areas just bruise more than others.  I haven't really found a spot that doesn't bruise at all, but sometimes it's just a little dot right at the injection site.

  • There is no rhyme or reason to where/when I bruise. I have had some AWFUL, hideous ones but right now, I look almost normal.

I will say, I *seem* to be bruising less with the generic. I actually like it better. This is my first month since the switch from brand. Maybe because it goes in more slowly?

  • When I was on lovenox, I stopped injecting in my belly altogether b/c the bruises were so bad. I injected in my thigh/hip area or had DH inject me in the bootie. I iced before, rarely after. Still had some bruising, but far less.

  • I just started Lovenox this week. I thought I was doing good the first couple of day but the 4th day I got a bruise the size of softball. The next day I realized a huge bruise on my leg (size of a baseball) with a large bump about the size of a quarter in it. I was just wondering if anyone else had gotton brusies with bumps on other parts of there bodies where they don't inject.

    Thanks
