Sorry ladies. I'm just fuming at my insurance company right now. When I first became pregnant, we were informed that there was a separate maternity deductible of $7500, plus a pretty high co-insurance rate. Our portion of the delivery (assuming it's a normal vaginal delivery) is $2500, plus whatever is remaining of the deductible. We have so far paid for this entire pregnancy out of pocket because of this high deductible, and it has really screwed up our finances.
Well I received a letter today informing me that because we have been making frequent claims to our insurance (due to my pregnancy), our premium will be raised by more than $60, starting next month. Excuse me, but you haven't actually PAID any of those claims because they are all maternity care claims that I have paid out of pocket to go toward the deductible! You are charging me more per month to continue doing nothing?
I realize that insurance companies regularly raise their rates, but this letter was just blatantly informing me that the rate hike was due to the frequent claims being made. GRR!!!! Stupid insurance scumbags. Right now I'm just desperately praying for DH to find a good full-time job to replace the current job (which he'll be losing by the end of the year) with a good insurance plan so that we no longer have to pay for private insurance like this.
Re: Insurance Vent
I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this right now. Insurance is the last thing you should be worrying about right now. I am lucky enough to have great insurance(I'm a nurse in a hospital). I really want to go part time(esp right now because I am having a hard time getting through my 10 hours shifts on my feet) but i'm worried because my insurance will triple if I drop down to part time and DH's insurance is out of network(BIG deductible).
Good luck! Hope you hubby gets a new job soon!!

Nope. My pregnancy hasn't been high risk at all, and the first extra procedure I will have is my extra ultrasound on Monday because the baby didn't seem to measure enough at my appointment this week. Otherwise all has been well. I think the insurance company is just being ridiculous.
So sorry to hear about your insurance problems. We have our insurance through DH's work and our deductible is super high anyway. Ends up being 5,000 per individual or 10,000 per family. Ridiculous to me. However, his employer pays the premiums, so it's better than going through my work where the deductible is only 3,000/6,000 and we would pay a portion of the premium. I did the math, it works out, especially if we don't end up going to the hospital much. However, maternity/well child services are 100% paid. Except for radiology and lab work. Which I have had A LOT of with dealing with UTI's, plus they just do a lot of lab work for pregnant women. Also, ultrasounds are apparently expensive. Our 20 week cost us almost $1000 so I am probably half way to meeting the individual deductible.
I hope your DH can find something with good benefits that pays well!
