Clomid and Femara-Same cycle?

Okay, so I remember a few weeks ago or so, someone posted about doing Clomid and Femara in the same cycle. Anyone know who that was??? I'd like some more info on it. I remember the responses, no one had really heard of it before and everyone kinda thought it was strange. Well.....went to see the RE today and that's my plan!

On my CD 13 monitoring appt. there was nothing, notta, zilch! This is my 3rd month on Clomid and was on 150mg. I had absolutely NO response to it. No side effects (which I was happy about), but pretty sure that wasn't a good sign.

So, my RE said well, you have no activity and don't really have a lining to shed, so lets just keep going. And he prescibed me Femara and I will start it Saturday. Start with 2.5mg for 5 days.

It's a little strange, but I'm happy to be off Clomid. To me it was more wasted cycles. I trust my RE, he's been doing this a long time and is very careful, so I know he would never do anything unsafe. I just hope it works. I would love to see SOMETHING! Please just give me one follie and I'll be happy. Geez! It's like excersizing everyday for 3 months and never loosing one pound! How frustrating! Okay thanks for that little vent on the end there. I needed that!

Sorry the clomid isn't working! Good luck with the femara! I hope that is what does the trick for you!

I remember that post too... I don't know who it was. My RE is the same way- if you don't have a lining to shed- it's fine to move on within the same cycle!
I will be starting Femara as soon as AF shows up!

I think you mean me - I am on my first clomid/femara together cycle (cd 12) so I can't tell you if it is working yet.GL on the rest of your cycle! Hopefully we both get our bfps in a couple of weeks.

Thanks! I knew I wasn't crazy! I asked last month to switch to Femara. Thankfully my RE was ok with the switch now. It will be a little weird and throw off my cycle dates, but oh well. Now I have a chance a a leap year baby. Good Luck on your Femara cycle too Marla.

Yes! I'm so glad you responded! Did you do them simutaneously? Or back to back? I just finished Clomid and had no response, so now, I'm going to try Femara in the same cycle. Just wondering how you were responding to it? Thanks and Good Luck!

I took them back to back, clomid 100 mg cd 3 - 7, then femara 2.5 mg cd 8 - 12. I had bw and us this morning and it looks like I ovulated 1 yesterday and have two more that may be released in the next day or so. She says if they don't release and I don't get a bfp that I will need to come in on cd 35 so she can check for cysts.

the best news was that I definitely ovulated and my lining is already thicker now then it was at the end of my clomid-only cycles. My DH is freaking out about triplets but even if I release the other two and have three floating around in there the chances that all three with be fertilized and implant is very low, though honestly I would be so happy to find out we were having triplets. I have been having all kinds of dreams over the last few nights of two boys and a girl. I know it is craziness and i would be ecstatic with one healthy baby but this process has been so long and sucked so bad I dread having to go through it again if we decided to have a second (can you tell I am putting WAY to much hope into this cycle).

In terms of side effects though I have to say this has been the best cycle yet. I did not get the post-clomid crash that I normally do, the emotional highs and lows did not really happen and the headaches were minimal. For those reasons alone I am very happy with the combination.

OMG, That is too funny about YH freaking out about triplets. I was just talking to DH last night that there is a pretty good chance (higher than healthy couples) we will have twins. And he was flipping out. I really didn't expect that reaction. I would love twins. Funny how similar our situations are.

Thank you so much for telling me your experience. I am really hoping this Femara works for me. I was so depressed about the clomid showing no results. So I take it you aren't doing a trigger to O. I have one planned. I go back on June 1st (crazy that it's June already) to see if and how many follies I have. Hoping at least 2. Then I will trigger and we're using TI, and then wait! Oh, I'm anxious and hopefully too!!! Hopefully this is all we both need. I really hope you get your BFP!!! Good Luck!

I have PCOS and tried 5 cycles of clomid alone where I only ovulated once so had a failed IUI and one cycle of femara alone with ovulation and a failed IUI. My RE has suggested I go to injectables, but I am worried about multiples so I have told him I want to stick with oral meds for now. My new regimen is femara 5mg (days 3-13) in combination with clomid 50mg (days 3-13). Has anyone ever taken both medications at the exact same time? I would love to hear some success stories and feedback. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback, I started cramping pretty bad so the RE said that we should just do 5 days of Clomid and Femara this time around instead of 10. I have an ultrasound on Monday to see if there are any mature follicles. I will keep my fingers crossed that we get to proceed with the IUI on Wednesday!
